FILE — In this March 18, 2019, file photo, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer listens to Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., in Clawson, Mich. Whitmer has ordered a review of Michigan auto insurers’ use of non-driving factors to set premiums and their pricing of policies that coordinate medical coverage with drivers’ health insurance. The Democrat’s move Wednesday comes as Republican lawmakers prepare to soon unveil legislation designed to reduce what on average are the country’s highest car insurance rates. Whitmer says the state must take a “hard look” at how insurers set rates to ensure their practices are lawful. (AP Photo/Paul Sancya, File)
Perhaps trying to emulate a corrupt Puerto Rican official isn’t the right move during a crisis? Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, whose response to the Wuhan virus has been a total mess, decided it was a good idea, though.
While appearing on The Daily Show — because going on comedy shows while people are dying is a good look or something — the governor wore a shirt that said “that woman from Michigan” in an apparent attempt to mimic Carmen Cruz.

Here’s a flashback to Cruz’s shirt if you don’t remember it.

For some reason, these female Democrat politicians think it’s some kind of own to put what Trump calls them on t-shirts. Instead, it just makes them look petty and silly. Who has time to go get a custom t-shirt made while one’s community is in total disarray?
Michigan has one of the worst outbreaks in the country. She has consistently been behind the curve in acting, especially compared to Ohio’s Governor.
But apparently what matters is she got into a few fights w Trump and spent a lot of time deflecting blame onto others. https://t.co/uNFevzTYiC

Whitmer has, wittingly or unwittingly, been involved in several spotlight provoking events during the current pandemic. You may recall that she was caught lying about the President supposedly withholding supplies from her state over politics. She would later walk that back.
Chuck Todd: You seemed to imply late in the week that you thought the federal government, or perhaps President Trump, was punishing Michigan in your attempts to procure different medical items. Do you have any – do you still believe that is happening or do you believe that you were mistaken?
Gov. Whitmer: No, you know, here’s what I said. What we are doing is placing all of these orders. We are contracting. We are trying to procure this, in addition to the help we need from the federal government and – like, Massachusetts, like New York, like California, like places all across the country, we’re bidding against one another. J.B. Pritzker from Illinois observed that same thing and then we get a notice that it’s going – being directed to, you know, the federal government and I think that’s a frustration point that is not unique to Michigan, but it’s certainly a part of the issue that we’re all confronting.
Before that, Whitmer unilaterally banned the use of a possible treatment for the Wuhan virus, disallowing doctors from prescribing it. That was another decision she had to pull back on, reversing herself a week later.
The Michigan Governor is up for re-election in 2022. Hopefully, the voters there remember how she handled this pandemic — or rather, didn’t handle it. She has not shown herself to be a serious person, but a partisan looking to elevate her political star.
