The world-famous Louvre Museum, a massive palace in the heart of Paris made of three architectural wings and dominated at the entrance by the spectacular pyramid designed by famed Chinese-American I. M. Pei, is home to countless priceless works of art, including the “Mona Lisa” and the “Venus de Milo.”
It was also the target of an unbelievably bold robbery during broad daylight Sunday, where at least three masked men got away with at least nine items from France’s Crown Jewels, including a crown that once belonged to Napoleon III’s wife, Empress Eugenie. It was later recovered, although damaged.

The robbers didn’t seem to mind the throngs of tourists or the security and simply pulled up on scooters and calmly went about their business:
Paris has launched a huge manhunt after audacious thieves carried out a jaw-dropping daylight heist on the Louvre, swiping nine of the museum's most priceless treasures including a £100million crown, in just seven minutes.
The gang of several 'highly organised criminals' arrived outside the world's most visited museum at around 9.30am local time on Sunday while thousands of tourists enjoyed a day out at the attraction.
Masked and wielding angle grinders, the gang parked up their scooters outside the Apollo Gallery (Galerie d'Apollon), home to jewels belonging to Napoleon Bonaparte, his wife Josephine and a string of subsequent Emperors and Empresses.

Grok translation of the above tweet:
Parisian surveillance cameras can spot a badly parked car or speeding in 3 seconds, but a forklift installed in front of the Louvre for a heist… nobody saw anything.

It’s out of a Pink Panther movie: the brazen thieves pulled out chainsaws and hacked their way toward the precious artifacts.
Video shows one of the suspected Louvre jewel thieves brazenly cutting through a glass case using a mini chainsaw before making off with the loot during Sunday’s heist at the Paris art gallery, French media has reported.
The short clip shows the alleged thief, wearing a yellow hi-viz jacket over a black hoodie, casually cutting through the protective case, French outlet BFMTV reported.

The whole operation took under 10 minutes. As of this writing, no suspects have been apprehended, although a huge manhunt is underway. Questions about security at the legendary museum are already being asked, and many are wondering how it could possibly be this easy to rip off the most famous museum in the world. Some are blaming staff cuts, since approximately 200 jobs have been cut from a 2,000 workforce over the last 15 years.
Whoever’s to blame, it’s an embarrassing episode for the French, and you can believe they’re throwing all available forces at finding out the perps.
