The Infantile Idiocy of the 'It's Only a Small Part of LA' Argument

As the Democrats and their buddies in the mainstream media continue to be apologists for the California one-party regime and its abundant failures, a number of “journalists” have joined in lockstep (as they so often do) and decided to go with this narrative: the anti-ICE riots are only occurring in a small part of Los Angeles, so they're not “real” riots.

This argument is so childish that it boggles the mind. First of all, we’re not talking about one unimportant little tract of land in the boonies of the California desert—it’s the downtown of freaking LA, the second most populous city in America—and it's become a virtual no-go zone for the last six nights.

This is acceptable to folks like CNN’s Brian Stelter?

Pure idiocy:

It reminds me of that genius ABC News host, Martha Raddatz, who said back in October ’24 of the violent takeover of Aurora, Colorado apartment buildings by the Tren de Aragua gang: “The incidents were limited to a handful of apartment complexes... A handful!"

A stunned JD Vance, speaking for all of us, replied, “Martha, do you hear yourself?!”

Mayor Karen Bass tried a similar approach, implying that because the entire county of 4,083 square miles isn’t on fire, it means that everything is just fine:

RedState’s Jim Thompson had thoughts about this line of thinking:

Stelter and Bass were far from alone; here’s CNN’s Dana Bash making the preposterous claim that they weren’t “real riots,” apparently because not enough people had been killed or buildings destroyed for her to make that assessment:

CNN's Disgrace: This Is What They Call Journalism?

The reality is that Los Angeles is huge, and it’s true that not all of us live downtown where much of the action is taking place. But does that mean it doesn’t affect us? Well, Mr. Stelter, I’d like to inform you that many schools hold their graduations downtown, and I know of several that have had to move their ceremonies out of fear. And do you think that protesters shutting down the 101—one of the major arteries that connects the city—doesn’t have an effect? Of course it does—it spills over onto the entire system and turns it into chaos.

Meanwhile, it’s quite disconcerting for many folks to know that violence is unfolding just an exit or two down the highway. Sure, it’s concentrated mostly in DTLA for the moment—but what if Trump hadn’t brought in the National Guard and the Marines and told Newsom and Bass to get their act together? Would we have seen another 1992?

The George Floyd riots in 2020 did in fact spread, and they showed up in my neighborhood where looters smashed the windows of businesses and marched angrily down the boulevards, spreading mayhem along the way. I wonder if that would qualify as “real” to Raddatz?

The Democrat/media complex is stuck with their depraved narrative that violence is acceptable—especially if it’s in the name of a progressive cause—and as long as it doesn’t get too out of hand, who cares? It’s a sick philosophy, and it’s what’s led to the decline of so many of our major cities.

Keep cracking down, President Trump. It’s time for the grown-ups to take over.

I leave you with an excellent example of the gaslighting media talking point—and a blistering clapback by a guy whose X bio says simply, "Air Force. Afghanistan. Beach. Beer. Tacos." Regardless of his resumé, his points are outstanding. It’s on the long side, but eminently worth it.

And always remember: you can't hate the media enough.

The area closed between the 5, 10, and 110, is six square miles. That’s an easy measurement “one square mile” never passed the smell test (or looking at a map).

What’s the difference? Enough that the Mayor’s office misled or outright lied to press.

More important than size is location and significance:
