The horrific attack by the terrorist group Hamas on October 7, 2023, on Israel was the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust. Since that time, there has been a clear uptick in antisemitic behavior around the world. It's almost as if that attack permitted those with antisemitic beliefs to make those beliefs public. Now, a new study says that those outward displays indicate a very disturbing trend.
Antisemitism is not a marginal phenomenon in Brussels.

A new study by the Jonathas Institute reveals the persistence, and in some cases the normalization, of antisemitic stereotypes in the Belgian capital.

On Monday, an annual study done by Tel Aviv University showed that the highest number of antisemitic attacks in 30 years took place in 2025, with 20 people being killed. The increase in antisemitic attacks began after the October 2023 attack and Israel's war in Gaza that followed. The numbers include the attack on Australia's Bondi Beach Hanukkah celebration last December. Tel Aviv University's Center for the Study of Contemporary European Jewry and the Irwin Cotler Institute for Democracy, Human Rights, and Justice release the study annually, coinciding with Israel's Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Uriya Shavit is the study's chief editor, and rightly says that “The data raise concern that a high level of antisemitic incidents is becoming a normalized reality.” In addition to the Australia attack, other attacks took place in Washington, D.C., and Colorado, and in October of 2025 in Great Britain, two people were killed on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, at a Manchester synagogue.
The detailed report tracks all attacks that run the gamut from verbal threats and harassment on social media to vandalism and physical attacks. It also showed the manner in which some of the attacks are carried out that resulted in physical injuries such as beatings and stone throwing. The results of the study showed that 2025 was the deadliest year for attacks on Jews since 1994, when a Jewish community center was bombed in Argentina in 1994.
Shavit also said of the increase in antisemitic attacks:
“The peak in the number of incidents was recorded in the immediate aftermath of the Oct. 7 attack, after which we began to see a downward trend — but unfortunately, that trend did not continue in 2025."

Columbia antisemitism task force report finds all its Middle East faculty are anti-Zionist https://t.co/xy4u4X0kTK
In 2025, in the U.K., there were 3,700 antisemitic incidents, up from 3,556 in 2024, and in Canada, there were 6,800 incidents in 2025, up from 6,219 in 2024. In the U.S., after October 7, it was maybe not surprising that the epicenters of antisemitism appeared to be on college campuses and universities. As protest encampments sprang up at places like Columbia University, officials seemed to cave to anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian protesters, and an overwhelming number of faculty members were promoting and amplifying antisemitism on their respective campuses. Another part of the problem: Teaching about the Holocaust is not uniform in public schools. As of January 2025, just 29 states required teaching about the Holocaust.

An often-repeated promise in the aftermath of the Holocaust was "Never again." Now, sadly, Uriya Shavit must state her grim concern that antisemitism is becoming "a normalized reality."
