Chip Roy to File 25th Amendment Resolution After Biden Debate Nightmare - Will Any Honest Dems Join Him?

Thursday night's presidential debate was one for the ages. Former President Donald Trump did whiff on answering a few questions, but he was sharp, articulate, and knew the facts of his record. Then there was President Joe Biden. Descriptions of his performance include the words "sad," "pathetic," and "shocking," although Democrats and the media are really the only ones "shocked" by it. Biden's mumbling, stumbling, brain-fart-laden performance has Democrats in a state of panic. Only hard-core Democrats and those who are paid to be are still clinging to the idea that Biden is tanned, rested, and ready for another four years. One Republican Congressman is officially standing up to say "enough."

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) stated on Friday, that he will introduce a resolution designed to remove Joe Biden from office following Biden's disastrous debate appearance. Roy announced the resolution on X Friday morning, saying that the 25th Amendment resolution would compel Biden's cabinet officials to deem Biden incapable of fulfilling the duties of the office of the president. Roy said about the resolution:

“I intend to put forth a resolution calling upon the [vice president] to immediately use her powers under section 4 of the 25th Amendment to convene & mobilize the principal officers of the Cabinet to declare the [president] is unable to successfully discharge the duties and powers of his office."

Joe Biden's cognitive abilities have sporadically been the topic of speculation but became more pronounced in February. During an interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur relating to Biden's mishandling of classified documents, Hur's report described Biden's memory as "hazy," "fuzzy," "faulty," and "poor." The report also revealed other startling details, such as Biden being unable to remember when his son Beau died or when he served as vice president. Thursday night's debacle, where Biden was unable to complete sentences several times, was hoarse and incoherent, brought those speculations front and center and also raised more questions.

While the thought of removing Biden from the Democrat ticket might be a tempting one for some Republicans, there are valid warnings to be careful what you wish for. Possible replacements for Biden like California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, or even Vice President Kamala Harris, even though she polls lower than Biden, and Democrats' penchant for pulling off last-minute "irregularities" should not be underestimated.

But a question many Americans have surely been asking for a while, my colleague Nick Arama asked out loud: Who is really running the country? Barack Obama now famously said in an interview with Stephen Colbert that:

"If I could make an arrangement where I had a stand-in, a frontman or frontwoman, and they had an earpiece in and I was just in my basement in my sweats looking through the stuff, then I could sort of deliver the lines but somebody else was doing all the talking and ceremony, then I'd be fine with that because I found the work fascinating."

Is that what is going on? Are unelected Obama faithful like Valerie Jarrett, Susan Rice, or Eric Holder really calling the shots?

What is extremely concerning for Rep. Roy and other Republicans is the massive national security issue Joe Biden's obvious cognitive problems create. Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un, and the Mullahs in Iran now have a front-row seat to the fact that America has a dangerously weak leader. If you are someone who means to harm America, you might have thought that the perfect time to act would be the time between the election and inauguration day. After Thursday, however, you realize your window has expanded tremendously.

The biggest question is: Will Rep. Roy's resolution go anywhere? We know Republicans are concerned. But Democrats saw the same thing their GOP colleagues did Thursday night. Are there any of them who are intellectually honest enough to admit that something needs to be done? Or are they so addicted and obsessed with power that it is all they care about?

It is unknown if Republicans will force a vote on the resolution or if House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) supports it. If GOP House members would force a vote, it would make Democrats very squirmy at having to go on the record as appearing not to see a problem with Biden. Johnson said that cabinet members should "search their hearts." We will see if they have any.
