The $4,000 Milestone: Average Tax Refunds Hit New Highs for 2025

People do tend to vote their wallets. Most folks have a pretty fair idea what side their bread is buttered on, and will usually vote for more, rather than less, in their bank balances. That's why "It's the economy, stupid" went from a flip comment to a truism in elections.

So, as the midterm election cycle is starting to get going, it's significant when the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson (LA-04) takes to his X account to tout one economic success: The Working Families Tax Cut.

The post continues:

That’s what happens when Republicans are in charge and we put AMERICANS first. Just as we planned, the Working Families Tax Cut has is resulting in lower taxes, bigger refunds and greater opportunity for all!

That's all well and good. It's a valuable campaign talking point as we get into the serious campaigning, especially after Labor Day, although much of that money will be spent by then, and a generous portion of the population seems to have the attention span of a bluebottle fly, so it's a message that Republicans will have to keep pounding home.

‘Outrageous’: Speaker Johnson, Workers Blast Latest Blue-State Ploy to Block Trump Promise

Over at the White House, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is doing just that.

The White House has issued an article on the matter as well. That piece states in part:

President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cuts Act provides broad-based tax relief for hardworking Americans, with the average taxpayer expected to see nearly $4,000 in total tax savings in 2026. Key provisions of the bill include No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, No Tax on Social Security, a deduction for auto loan interest on Made-in-America vehicles, and much more — putting more money back in the pockets of families, workers, and seniors.

These things, of course, are always more complicated than that, but this is still a vital message.

These midterms are important, much more so than usual. The administration and Congress need to get their web-footed waterfowl arranged in a linear fashion, not this fall, not the summer, but now. It's not too soon. If they want to win, it's got to be about the message, and "more money in your pocket" has and is always a good message where elections are concerned. The Democrats will be singing the same old song about protecting illegal immigrants and giving neurotic boys access to girls' sports and girls' locker rooms in our schools, but that's no reason for the GOP to rest on its laurels. This campaign must be fought to the bitter end, be fought for every vote.

Bigger tax refunds are one arrow in that quiver.

Editor's Note: President Trump is leading America into the "Golden Age" as Democrats try desperately to stop it.
