It's beginning to look like the whole "transgender" social contagion has largely run its course. There are, of course, people who genuinely suffer from gender dysphoria; this is a psychological condition that's been known about for years and has been treated for years. But the whole thing about boys cosplaying as girls demanding to compete in girls' sports - not to mention sharing their showers and locker rooms - and just plain outrageous people who want to shock and offend, that's another story.
Then there are the people with "trans kids." That's like having a "vegan cat," as the one thing you know for sure when you hear that is that this wasn't the cat's choice. But in some circles (I'm looking at you, Hollywood), having a "trans kid" is a kind of perverse status symbol. That's not the worst of it; no, the worst part comes when minor children, young people who cannot give informed consent, who cannot get a tattoo without parental permission, are talked into life-changing "gender affirmation" treatments. This is starting to draw the attention of state legislatures as well as the Trump administration, all of whom are cracking down, withholding funds from organizations that conduct these treatments.
The latest of these is North Carolina, where, as I reported earlier on Tuesday, the legislature just overrode Democrat Governor Josh Stein's veto of a law defining what men and women are, and barring these treatments for minors.

Which brings us to Prisha Mosley, a detransitioner who, the day before the veto override, made an eloquent case for the law.
Earlier this month, North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein vetoed House Bill 805, a bill that would codify sex-based definitions of “male” and “female” into state law. With his veto, Stein turns his back on vulnerable young people like me and jeopardizes the safety of those who have been led to believe they can change their sex characteristics.
By the young age of just 16 years old, I had started socially transitioning to appear as a boy. At 17, I started testosterone injections. A plastic surgeon in North Carolina cut off my healthy breasts when I was 18. My doctors said this was the only way to treat my mental illness.
These "doctors" are charlatans, unworthy of the title or position of "Medical Doctor." Not only do they violate the ancient medical ethic of primum non nocere (First, do no harm), but these procedures are being carried out on children. Children, who can't give informed consent, are being subjected to life-changing, irreversible, debilitating treatments. Granted, Prisha was 18 when the mastectomy was done, but that almost certainly wouldn't have happened had she not already started down this destructive path - and even hormone treatments have permanent, life-altering effects.
Prisha continues to describe what was done to her:
I’ve seen the harms of “gender-affirming” procedures and gender ideology firsthand. After I read about transgenderism online and saw a “gender specialist,” I was fast-tracked for medicalization. When the various procedures I was subjected to didn’t help me, I detransitioned and was left to navigate the aftermath alone. Now, I’ll never have the ability to breastfeed my son, my voice is permanently lowered, and my health is a constant battle.
That last part may be the worst: The "doctors" were there when they were convincing Prisha to undergo these mutilations, but when she needed support after realizing her mistake, they had, it seems, disappeared. She will be dealing with the consequences of this bad decision for the rest of her life, a decision that she was almost certainly persuaded into, not by a counselor but by an activist.
We should note that these treatments are potentially harmful for children to even be exposed to, much less undergo:

Studies have shown that detransitioning is more common than the "transgender" activists like to claim, and the leading reason given was that the patient realized that their dysphoria was related to other issues; half said that their reason was that the treatment "did not help with (their) dysphoria." Those are not reasons that make one feel better about the wisdom of these procedures, especially when they're done on children.
Adults, of course, who are capable of giving informed consent, may do as they please. But children should, must be protected from this - even if their own parents are advocating for it.
Gender ideology has harmed far too many young adults. From detransitioners like me to female athletes forced to compete against trans-identifying males, our youth deserve to be protected.
For the sake of the millions of children who live in North Carolina, I hope the Legislature overrides Gov. Stein’s veto. My story should never have happened. And if this bill passes, North Carolinians are a step closer to ensuring it never happens again.
The North Carolina legislature, as we saw earlier, did indeed override Governor Stein's veto. This lunacy won't be happening in North Carolina anymore. This is - was, in North Carolina, a hideous violation of medical ethics, not to mention common sense. In that state, at least, it's over. And that's a good thing.
