Speaking from Scotland on Sunday, President Trump had some sharp things to say about green energy. There's little doubt that some of these comments were indirectly aimed at the nations of the European Union (EU) that have gone all-in for "renewable" energy schemes in recent years, although the president couched his remarks to apply to the United States.
Windmills, in particular, drew the president's ire.
.@POTUS spits facts: "We will not allow a windmill to be built in the United States. They're killing us. They're killing the beauty of our scenery ... It's the most expensive form of energy. It's no good. They're made in China." pic.twitter.com/5Rv7VDUBDs

Some of the president's remarks include:
And the other thing I say to Europe, we will not allow a windmill to be built in the United States. They're killing us. They're killing the beauty of our scenery, our valleys, our beautiful plains, and I'm not talking about airplanes, I'm talking about beautiful plains, beautiful areas in the United States, and you look up, and you see windmills all over the place.
There can be little doubt that these things are eyesores. They are, at present, still cropping up in the Upper Midwest like toxic mushrooms. But there are other objections to these devices, both economic and environmental.
It's the most expensive form of energy. They're made in China, almost all of them. When they start to rust and rot in eight years, you can't really turn them off. You can't bury them. They won't let you bury the propellers, the props, because they're a certain type of fiber that doesn't go well with the land.
Wind power is one of the lowest energy-density methods of generating electricity that is in use today. It doesn't approach traditional sources, like coal, natural gas, or fuel oil. So, besides the eyesore factor, you have an expense factor. These windmills cost far too much for the value produced.
But wait! There's more!
More important than that, it ruins the landscape, it kills the birds, they're noisy, you know you have a certain place in the Massachusetts area that over the last 20 years have had one or two whales wash ashore, and over the last short period of time, they had 18. OK? Because it's driving them loco. It's driving them crazy.
Of course, the "green energy" advocates, most of whom don't live out in the environment they are so concerned with, aren't ones to let a few dead whales or eagles get in the way of a political agenda. Fortunately, for the United States, President Trump isn't sanguine about the prospect of windmills in the United States.

It's time for a return to a sane energy policy in the United States, and the Trump administration is determined to take us there. Europe, well, we can't do much about Europe, and to be honest, Europe has problems more compelling than just big, ugly windmills scattered around the landscape. These devices are damaging to the landscape and the environment, not to mention American bank balances. And, when we note that they kill birds, it's important to also note that the birds they kill are overwhelmingly big raptors, like hawks and eagles, which are least able to withstand the damage to their populations. These birds have large territories, making them thin on the ground, and reproduce slowly, generally 2-4 chicks per year.
Windmills aren't good for the environment, and they aren't good for energy policy. President Trump is right to call out Europe over these devices.
