On Wednesday, President Trump hosted Fox News's "The Ingraham Angle" host Laura Ingraham on a tour of the Oval Office, followed by a sit-down interview. There are a couple of interesting clips to watch, as they provide a pretty clear look at what President Trump's priorities are, and also, how he values American history.
There was also a demonstration of the big red button on the presidential desk, and no, no missiles were launched.
The first clip from the show is the tour of the Oval Office.

There were, as usual, a few highlighting moments.
President Trump, speaking of the presidential portraits in the Oval Office: So, here's a question I ask. So (Ronald) Reagan has a place of prominence and George Washington has a place of prominence. And I've asked this question maybe 200 times to people that come in. I said, who would you put in the place of prominence, George Washington or Ronald Reagan? Who would you put?
Laura Ingraham: Washington.
President Trump: So far it's 219 to zero. And they like Reagan. But here's what they like more than anything. So this is the Declaration of Independence.
Laura Ingraham: Wow.
But for my money, the most lighthearted moment, after the discussion of the Declaration of Independence (which was signed by two of my ancestors) along with Trump's trademarked gold decorations and the Gulf of America, was President Trump's demonstration of the famous Diet Coke button on the Resolute Desk.
Laura Ingraham: Where's the Coke button?
President Trump: It's right here. Everyone thinks that's the nuclear weapons. They think it's the nuclear weapon. They say if I press this it's the end of the world. And it doesn't seem to work out that way.
The world would be a fragile place indeed if bringing the President of the United States a Diet Coke would endanger the very future of the planet. Honestly, who thinks that the nuclear launch authority would involve anything so childishly simple as a big red button on the president's desk?
Moving on into the interview itself, President Trump presented his analysis of his progress to date as well as the present state of the Democrats in Congress and around the country; most specifically, their rather baffling stance on some issues that are overwhelmingly opposed by large majorities of the American people.
.@POTUS: The Democrats lost big because they're backing these 90% negative things... men in women's sports... but now they have a new one: backing murderers and people that hate our country... I think that might be a 100% issue for us. Backing Khalil is not a great issue. pic.twitter.com/GRhLGGrb47

The president spoke about men in women's sports, the Democratic opposition to the repatriation of criminals, and more:
President Trump: Think of it. The Democrats lost big. Look at what's happening with (Senator Chuck) Schumer. But the Democrats lost big because of the stupidity, you know they're backing these 90 percent negative things from that standpoint, men in women's sports, transgender for everybody, all of this stuff, they're all for it, and you know they're still fighting for it. But now they have a new one. We're going to back murderers, killers, and people that hate our country, we're going to back people that hate Israel, that want to destroy it. People that are murderers, people that are horrible, we're going to back them. I think that might be a 100 percent issue for us.
The president may well be right. It's rather baffling that Democrats - most of them, anyway - keep pushing these far-left positions, but here we are.

President Trump has regularly demonstrated a knack that most politicians lack, and that's keeping his finger on the pulse of what people outside the Beltway are thinking. Most people aren't all that concerned, honestly, with renaming geographic features, but many of us are pleased with this new emphasis on our nation's storied history: The Declaration of Independence, the prominence of place for George Washington's portrait. More than that, most Americans, judging by the latest polls, approve of the Trump administration's actions on the economy and illegal immigration, two of the major issues of the 2024 election.
The president is probably also correct about the Democrat's ongoing political self-immolation. For the sake of the country, let's hope they don't catch on.
