Get on the Bus! Democrat Mayor of El Paso Sending Illegal Immigrants to Chicago

As the situation on the southern border continues to escalate, the Mayor of El Paso — a Democrat — has had enough. The city of El Paso is now offering free bus rides to Chicago for illegal aliens crossing the border.

Democrats have blamed Republican governors for sending migrants to their cities and called it an “inhumane stunt.”

But some of the migrants who arrived in Chicago over the weekend came on buses chartered by the Democratic mayor of El Paso, Texas.

Some migrants are so desperate to cross the border, they rode on top of train cars into Texas.

“Railroad operators went as far as warning us of the dangers and telling us to wait for different trains if they didn’t have enough wagons,” one migrant said. “But we were so eager to get our destination that we take the risk to get to our destination.”

El Paso’s mayor said his city is at a breaking point as nearly 2,000 migrants arrive per day.

The city sent two buses to Chicago in recent days, the first time that’s happened in nearly a year.

On Monday, I wrote about El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser's voicing his frustration with the Biden administration's non-existent border policies. See also my colleague Mike Miller's excellent piece on the state of the crisis to date, also from Monday.

Some in the media will no doubt insist that these people — who, again, are in the country illegally — are being "herded into buses." Nothing could be further from the truth.

“Every individual that boards one of these busses is going voluntarily,” Jorge Rodriguez with El Paso Emergency Management said. “They sign a form stating that they’re going voluntarily to the destination of their choice. No one has been forced, but we are coordinating with them carefully.”

He is not the only Democrat at wit’s end.

Denver has sent seven migrant buses to Chicago since last summer.

Chicago currently has almost 9,000 illegals in makeshift shelters, with over 2,000 more awaiting a spot in a shelter. Many more are waiting in Chicago Police stations and in O'Hare and Midway Airports. To date, over 600 busloads of illegal immigrants have been sent to Chicago alone, all from the Texas border towns of El Paso, Eagle Pass, Del Rio, Laredo, McAllen, and Brownsville, along with seven buses from Denver, Colorado.

The blame for all this should be laid directly at the feet of the Biden administration; the federal government is, by the Constitution, responsible for border security. Article 4, Section 4 of the Constitution states:

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

The Biden administration has utterly failed to protect the states at the border against invasion. It is understandable, then, that the states, and the cities along the border, are taking things into their own hands.

There is a principle of economics that also applies to the situation on our southern border. That principle is Stein's Law, attributed first to economist Herb Stein (father of economist and actor Ben Stein). Stein's Law states, with beautiful simplicity, that "If something cannot go on forever, it will stop"

Our southern border has come to just such a pass. Things as they are not only cannot go on forever, they cannot go on any longer. The situation is intolerable. It will stop. The only question, at this point, is how.
