American Heroes of 9/11: Welles Crowther

They knew him only as the man in the red bandana, and the people he saved never learned his name. He led them down to the 61st floor, turned around, went back up, and then did it again. Eight months later his mother read a newspaper story about a mysterious man in a red handkerchief who led survivors down the stairs, and she knew who it was. His name was Welles Crowther and he is an American hero.
