WATERCOOLER 12/26/15 (Open Thread) IRS lost money, Mugshots, The newest Libertarian

News of a major shake-up in the presidential race broke Thursday. John McAfee who had planned to join the race under his very own “Cyber Party”, which just sounds like a raucous blog site IMO, but plans have changed. McAfee now will be running as a Libertarian  after having been in contact with reps from the party earlier in the week, says USAToday.

Doug Craig, a national board member of the Libertarian Party, said he recently discussed ballot access with McAfee, and the challenges an independent candidate faces. “He fits right in with our political philosophy,” Craig says.

But what about [mc_name name=”Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)” chamber=”senate” mcid=”P000603″ ] , who was initially expected to receive a sizable amount of Libertarian votes?  Could be Sen. Paul has already removed himself from many of the voters minds. After Fox News announced the criteria for the 1/14/16 Republican debate,  the good Senator made clear he would not take part in an undercard debate.

Who did not see this coming? Anybody? Bueller?  When grown boys get new toys  hijinx happen. Those drones are now out of their boxes and causing trouble. Over at The Verge is a long running page of pictures and tweets outlining a few memorable mishaps.  One young lady lamented the fact her dad got the drone stuck in HER hair. While another tweeter said his father hit himself in the crotch, twice, and only had it out for ten minutes.  Obviously, there’s a bit of a learning curve with these things.  Here’s my suggestion for cutting down on accidental injuries while still taking part in aviation fun. And no registration required.

Knowing you’ve probably lost sleep over the nagging question of who exactly is endorsing your favorite candidate(s), you’ll be relieved to know one spot has all the names.  Its a Wiki, and surprisingly stays pretty much up to date.  It’s a handy reference you can jump to when you want to know, say, who are all the current lawmakers endorsing Jeb Bush? And it’s not just current and former lawmakers listed, but celebrities as well.  Among the numerous celebrities Donald Trump boasts, Wayne Newton and Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

[mc_name name=’Rep. Diane Black (R-TN)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’B001273′ ] (R-TN) is not happy with the recent omnibus bill that passed. In total,  it included $290 million in funding for the IRS. What she’s really upset about is that the agency loses significant money. For 2013, the agency reportedly lost roughly $46 million because of a computer glitch and because tax returns were not verified. Its stuff like this that keeps engaged taxpayers beating the drums for either a “flat tax” system. Or a “fair tax” system. Or some kind of “fix the damn” system.

I gotta admit this game was kind of neat, never mind that I got every single answer wrong. Maybe you’ll do better.  The Smoking Gun put up a photo game whereby you are to match five people arrested and the weapons “they allegedly wielded during assaults or batteries.”  Remember innocent until proven guilty.  Once you’re through matching up these five, you can go to their other Friday games.  I think the best was  put up Dec 11th.   Again it’s five mugshots, but you pick out the defendants first name. Who would give their sons these names? Honestly.

Coming to a state near you.  Legalized recreational marijuana.  So far 9 states are set to put new laws before the voters which could legalize recreational use:  Vermont; Rhode Island; Ohio; Michigan; Nevada; Maine; Arizona; Connecticut; and California. Yahoo explains some of these states already had approval for medical marijuana use, while these new laws would effect recreational inhaling.  A little something to munch on…sometimes, for whatever reason, a person may decide they don’t want to vote in an election whether its for president or dog catcher.  But throw an interesting referendum in the mix, and whohoo, interest abounds.
