Michigan’s Newest United States Senator Senator Just Stepped Into Trouble With Congressional Black Caucus

By the middle of the week, temperatures in the state of Michigan are expected to be at or very close to 100 degrees, which makes us just as bad as Florida, except we are north of the Mason-Dixon line.

We will all run out of ice and ice cream during it, and that will make us miserable, and maybe that is why the Democrats here are getting a bit per snickity.

Which brings us to a surprising update in the Statewide United States Senate race, which is heating up, and oddly enough, the Democrats are throwing mud at another Democrat.

I don’t know if I’m supposed to cheer about this or keep quiet and eat popcorn and try not to choke.

The truly amazing thing is that the shade is being thrown by the Congressional Black Caucus at another Democrat who is not even RUNNING in the 2026 campaign.

Will miracles never cease?

When I saw the headline to this story, I could not believe it, and of course, I had to read it.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin is taking heat from the Congressional Black Caucus and a couple of Michigan Democrats for suggesting both the Senate and House need a new generation of leaders because "the old models are not working."

Her remarks on Stephen A. Smith's podcast on SiriusXM last week prompted pushback from House Democrats, including the chair and former chairs of the Congressional Black Caucus, who accused Slotkin of “posturing for higher office in 2028."

Slotkin of Holly on the podcast suggested the Democratic Party hasn't recovered from getting "shellacked" in the 2024 election.

Ooooof.

I actually do understand what Slotkin is trying to say here; she thinks she is in a safe zone talking with an ally for the Dems... but she actually is not.

Stephen A. Smith is not a stranger to the political scene. I could link back to his appearances on Bill Maher or his comments about how Donald Trump has done and what he agrees with him on, showing he has not been all fire and brimstone with Trump. However, that is not to say that Stephen A. Smith loves Donald Trump, but my impression is he doesn't really hate him either.

She continues in the interview with Smith...

"We have literally found ourselves in a situation where we just don't have people who understand the moment and understand what leadership means," Slotkin said.

So she must be taking a potshot at Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, which of course she is.

The fact that Haley Stevens, who is running to replace retiring Democrat Senator Gary Peters, and former United States Senator from Michigan, Debbie Stabenow, both came out to defend the House minority leader, Jeffries, is a clear indication of that.

Haley Stevens came out and blew verbal kisses at Jefferies, saying she can't wait until he becomes the Majority Leader, and Stabenow was awoken long enough to complain that Slotkin's always complaining that Democrats on Democrat crime happens, and yet she ( Slotkin) always seems to do it.

Someone is not getting invited to a slumber party. I'll let you fine folks decide who.

The Congressional Black Caucus, though, is still a bit peeved.

"Before attempting to weigh in on House Democratic leadership, Senator Slotkin should account for her own role in enabling a racist administration ..." the CBC said in a statement.

YIKES.

I did not have this on my bingo card at all, but I have to tell you I'm quite pleased that I'm seeing some Democrat on Democrats sniping going into July. This is so much fun to see.

This is the kind of event that, of course, will be forgotten by the time we roll around to August and the nominees for United States Senate are selected, but the feelings may not totally go away, and depending on who wins on the Democratic side, there could be some hard feelings left over.

The Congressional Black Caucus might not have as much muscle as it did back in the '60s, '70s, or '80s, but they still have enough pull to get on TV and in the print media and, of course, right here on the interwebs. They still can do some damage, yet it is one of those topics that can absolutely wreck a campaign, and we just have to wait to find out until the first Tuesday in the primary how it shakes out.

I kind of have a feeling it's going to be a long election night here in the state of Michigan for the Democrats.
