Too Little, Too Late: Whitmer Rescinds Order She Got Caught Violating Last Weekend

Democratic National Convention via AP

I am now 100% convinced that the 49th Governor of the state of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, is trolling the whole state and daring anyone to stop her. Really.

If you are a political junkie it is amazing to watch how this lady rolls.

As I wrote about here at RedState yesterday, Whitmer held an event just a day after issuing an apology for breaking her own COVID rules. Michigan Governor Channels Her Inner Gavin Newsom, Breaks Her Own COVID Rules at a Bar With Friends. This event at a furniture manufacturer gave the press the first chance to ask her why she broke her own rules.

She answered in only the way she could.

Reporter: Do you think Landshark [The restaurant she was at with her pals violating her own order] should be fined for violating your policy and if not do you think other business that was fined should be pulled back that were issued by MIOSHA?

Governor Whitmer: So I’ll just say this, I put out a statement and I wrote that statement and it was an honest mistake and I have apologized for it. I think that we have specifically not gone forward and penalized businesses that were trying to do the right thing, it’s those that have flouted and put people’s safety at risk that is the most concerning. I don’t know if there is a lot more for me to add at this point and time. Others than those former Spartans if you are a Spartan for life now should be aware that it is now a restaurant and they have pretty good pizza.

The pizza was so good at this place that Gretchen decided that everyone should be able to gather in large groups ASAP there and not wait until June 1st to be able to do so.

She is a peach, right?

From the Washington Examiner

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s administration on Monday rescinded a rule that limits restaurant tables to no more than six people, a day after she apologized for violating the COVID-19 regulation while gathering with friends at an East Lansing bar.

The Democratic governor has said tables at the Landshark Bar& Grill were pushed together as more people arrived in her party of roughly a dozen fully vaccinated people.

A revised gatherings and face mask order, issued by the state health department, no longer includes the six-patrons-per-table provision, effective June 1. Whitmer had announced last week the planned easing of capacity restrictions on June 1 but had not specified if other changes would be coming in the new order, which was released as expected on Monday.

The governor also signed a revised workplace safety order that immediately no longer requires 6 feet (2 meters) of separation between tables.

That is a pretty cool trick. You make up rules that you have yet to show are based on data or science and you shame people every chance you get for THINKING about doing something like this. Then when you get caught doing the very thing that you are giving fines for others doing, you just eliminate the rule.

#Amazing.

This is not the only time Michigan’s version of CNN’s Fredo Cuomo’s older brother, Andy in New York, has broken the rules she has laid out for the people.

Here is a brief refresher.

Whitmer admitted that her husband had traveled from Lansing to Elk Rapids, Michigan, to rake leaves, on an almost 200-mile round trip excursion. Of course, her highnesses directive at the time discouraged this according to the state’s website “Long-distance travel is discouraged unless it is for a purpose considered critical under the governor’s ‘Stay Home, Stay Safe’ Executive Order.” This was before her husband then got caught trying to take a cut in line with dropping the boat in the water being he was the Governor’s husband. Pre-Pandemic, I bet that line works every time.

I’m sure you all recall that Whitmer, her director of MDHHS, and her chief of staff all decided to go down south for a li’l R&R or to visit family. There was no rule FORBIDDING anyone from leaving the state but there were a bunch of emotional appeals on shows and press conferences lecturing the unwashed masses about heading south for any reason. Whitmer led the charge to make this plea for others. However, she also led the charge to skedaddle down south and her MDHHS person and C.O.S. followed dutifully.

Can’t get into trouble if the boss does it right?

If only Big Gretch had rescinded her rules the day BEFORE she went out to get that really good pizza with her pals, none of this would have mattered. She could have deadpanned looking into the camera and smiled with a look of shock that anyone would ever doubt her sincerity or motives. Then she could drag out the tired old rhetoric that this was a partisan attack or picking on her because she is a woman.

What a missed opportunity.

Michigan is in trouble and if you don’t believe it, just look at how this state has been run over the past 14 months and see how our “dear leader” has handled her own rules. One set for the ruling class that has not missed a check the whole time and a different set for the rest of the plebes.

I’m glad she enjoyed the pizza though.
