I’m going to be pounding this point home for this whole election season. Do NOT be afraid to check out the musings of those who disagree with you politically. This is a great way to challenge your views and sharpen your arguments in a debate.
The guy who leads the H.B.O. show “Real Time With Bill Maher” is one of the people I watch. I don’t agree with him much but when I do it helps me confirm why I believe what I do from a progressive view. That is never a bad thing.
I wrote about Maher the other day here at Red State and his analysis about Trump’s speech hitting the mark with black voters…Bill Maher Gets It Right on Trumps State of the Union Speech About Black Voters and he was spot on. He is sounding the alarm that his fellow Libs are not yet heeding. If you are a fan of President Trump getting re-elected, this is a good sign.
Maher also spoke about Rush Limbaugh and his current cancer diagnosis on his show this past weekend and didn’t go where a lot of progressive $%^&* went with taking cheap shots at Rush.
From the Washington Times…
“Yes, I’m not a Rush Limbaugh fan,” Mr. Maher added. “He did some terrible things. But I’m not going to do jokes about that.”
Mr. Maher, 64, subsequently proceeded to recall how Mr. Limbaugh, 69, came to his defense amid facing criticism for remarks he made following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
“He defended me after 9/11. Rush Limbaugh did. And I never forgot it,” Mr. Maher continued. “And maybe that’s — we could just pull back a little on the dead people and the sick people. How about that as a start? Everybody, what do you think? Let’s not be s–-ting on people who are not cold yet.”
Maher is once again spot on here.
You can disagree with Limbaugh all you want but taking shots at the guy right after a cancer diagnosis for the crew that claims one of their mantras is COEXIST is simply gross. They have the right to do it of course but it shows they lack any true empathy.
As Maher mentions, Limbaugh defended the embattled host of Politically Incorrect on ABC after his 9-11 comments that got the show booted from the air. Bill had said that President Bush’s comments about the terrorists being cowards was the wrong expression explaining that flying a plane into a building doesn’t fit that definition. Rush and others defended Maher and he obviously has not forgotten that.
This is how it used to be years ago with people. I might have disagreed with your ideas but I would defend your right to say them and would have never tried to shut you down for saying something I was opposed too.
Everyone on occasion goes for the cheap shot to be loved by your thought peers. Those that are actually growing and learning though know when to push forward and also when to pull back. Limbaugh went through this period years ago and it looks like Maher is now also.
You don’t have to like what Bill Maher believes in but you can acknowledge that he is learning from past goof ups and it would be great of others like him followed his lead.
