Cherokee Nation to Elizabeth Warren...CUT IT OUT, Paleface.

Senator Elizabeth Warren

I’m guessing 23 and me is loving this story.

In case you have been asleep today and missed the news, Sen. Elizabeth Warren kicked off her run for the White House today ( my colleague Joe Cunningham covered it here She’s Running! Elizabeth Warren Releases Genetic Test Results With “Strong Evidence” Of Native American Ancestry) in grand style.

Except that the results of the test put her in the less than 1% range of Native American and that is not all that impressive. If you took the 1 million dollar bet that President Trump said he would pay off if she took a test to prove it, in fraction form, he would pay just over 900 dollars on a million dollar bet.

While the political pundits are ablaze with all the snarky comments on this, one group of Americans are not very happy with her trying to appropriate a heritage that is not truly hers.

The Cherokee Nation.

In a Press Release sent out just hours ago, Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr. had this to say…

Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong. It makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses while also dishonoring legitimate tribal governments and their citizens, whose ancestors are well documented and whose heritage is proven. Senator Warren is undermining tribal intrests with her continued claims of tribal heritage.”

Nailed it.

Remember that Elizabeth Warren is the one who has claimed this heritage for her adult life in academia. A Fordham Law Review Piece back in 1997, a full 15 years before she ran against Scott Brown said she was Harvard Law School’s “first woman of color.” I don’t think the Harvard staff just pulled that one out of thin air.

Someone named Elizabeth Warren told them that.

Also adding your “special recipes” for a cookbook called POW WOW CHOW might be leading people to believe that you have to spin this tale for a couple of years.

If Warren thought this would put that issue to rest with a slick youtube video, she and her people severely underestimated people doing MATH. I’m super glad she did. I bet president Trump is thrilled she did.

However, the Cherokee Nation has had enough of people like Sen. Warren doing this fake dance and you really can’t blame them.
