It was never a question of if Karmelo Anthony was responsible for the stabbing death of fellow teen Austin Metcalf at a Frisco, Texas, high school track meet back in April. Anthony himself admitted to carrying out the deadly act at Kuykendall Stadium, apparently telling police, "I'm not alleged, I did it!" when law enforcement arrested him for the killing. There were also eyewitnesses and video evidence showing Anthony as the aggressor.
The question these last few months was, instead, when would Karmelo Anthony finally face justice for killing Austin Metcalf? Anthony has been out this entire time on a $250,000 (lowered from $1 million) bond, and is the recipient of a generous GiveSendGo crowdfunding campaign that has raised over $500,000 so far. While Metcalf's family mourned his untimely and violent death, Anthony's only real restriction was having to wear an ankle monitor while under house arrest.

And what a house it was. As RedState's Bonchie reported shortly after the murder, Anthony's family took advantage of the largesse by not only buying a new car, but also by moving to fancy new digs. For "security" purposes, of course. Here's Bonchie:
Now, we know what Anthony and his family did with a good portion of the money they received. According to a new report, they bought a new car and moved into a $900,000 home in a gated community. No, I'm not kidding. They took money intended for his "legal defense" and hit the upgrade button with it.
That wasn't the only thing about Karmelo Anthony and his family that has raised eyebrows since the attack. The family, curiously, picked a rather nefarious character, Dominique Alexander, to become their chief spokesperson, with the goal of painting Anthony as the true victim. Which seems to have worked to some extent, based off the substantial amount raised through crowdfunding. (RedState's Becky Noble had a great write up of Alexander's very questionable past here.)
Well, be prepared for the "Karmelo Anthony is the real victim here" narrative to go into overdrive as Collin County, Texas, officials have, at long last, indicted Anthony for first degree murder in the stabbing death of Austin Metcalf. Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis shed some light on what exactly took so long to bring the charges:
"Earlier this spring, our community was shaken by what happened at a school track meet in Frisco — the violent loss of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. For weeks, my team has been presenting evidence to the grand jury. Today, I summarized that evidence, and I asked the Grand Jury to return a first-degree murder indictment against Karmelo Anthony — which they did," he said.
Anthony's defense attorney, Mike Howard, said the teen looked forward to his day in court: "We expect that when the full story is heard, the prosecution will not be able to rule out the reasonable doubt that Karmelo Anthony may have acted in self-defense."
Austin Metcalf's family, meanwhile, welcomed the news that there may be finally justice for the murdered youth, with his father, Jeff Metcalf, saying, "I am pleased that we are moving forward. With the first degree murder indictment, it now goes into the court system. I fully believe that justice will be served for Austin Metcalf. I look forward to the forthcoming trial. But it will never bring my son back."
