Actor Burt Reynolds Has Some Thoughts on Trump

Burt Reynolds is a friend of Donald Trump’s.

Burt Reynolds thinks Trump is being an arrogant jerk.

Something like that.

Reynolds doesn’t seem to hold any ill will towards Trump, but he’s realistic.

The 80-year-old actor said in an article published Saturday that he’s concerned that Trump could throw the U.S. into a war situation “very quickly.”

“There’s a part of him that is so much fun and so sweet, but he’s doing what I used to do — having a good time being arrogant. And he has so many hangers-on,” he said.

I think the bulk of what Reynolds is trying to say here is that leaders need more than “Yes men.” They need honest advisers and people willing to get them off of their high horse, once they get out of hand.

At least, that’s how I’m taking it.

“I was terrified that my friend Donald Trump would ask me to be part of his presidential campaign,” the “Smokey and the Bandit” star told the Guardian. “I’d have said no,” he added.

Reynolds had compared Trump to a sheriff who was “quick on the draw,” back in March 2016, and that wasn’t too far off from truth.

At this point, Trump’s thin skin is well documented.

In other words, he’s easily triggered and Twitter is his safe space.

The actor said at that time that he had no doubt his friend would be nominated. As to whether he would vote for him, or not… He wasn’t quite as ready to say.

“You know, our current president has kind of messed things up the last four years. But I don’t know who I would vote for,” he told the Daily Beast.

He’s definitely right about that.

Let’s just hope his fears about Trump do not come to pass.

For all of our sakes.
