BREAKING: Charlotte PD Agrees to Release Dash Cam Footage of Shooting

The Charlotte Police Department will be releasing the dash cam footage of the shooting of 43-year old Keith Scott.

Police Chief Kerr Putney had previously refused to release the video, but four nights of rioting and calls from protesters to release the video have had an impact.

Today, Governor Pat McCrory, who had declared a state of emergency and deployed the National Guard and State Troopers to aid in bringing order back to the city after the second night has released this statement:

As governor of North Carolina, I concur with the Charlotte police chief’s decision to release the tapes. I have been assured by the State Bureau of Investigation that the release will have no material impact on the independent investigation since most of the known witnesses have been interviewed. We have appreciated the ongoing dialogue and team work between state and city officials to seek public transparency while protecting the integrity of the investigation and the rights of all parties involved in this case.

It is unclear what will be revealed on the dash cam video, or how it will differ from the cell phone footage released by Scott’s wife on Friday.
