Child Abuse For the Sake of Social Justice

In this photo taken June 6, 2015, Andii Viveros, 21, of Davie, Fla., applies makeup as she prepares to host the annual Sun Serve LGBTQA Colors of the Wind youth prom in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Viveros, who identifies as a transgender female, said she was always different from an early age growing up as a boy. Her parents accepted her to be anyway she wanted to be. She fought for her rights in high school, sometimes violating the school's code of conduct by wearing dresses. She was elected prom queen in high school and is now studying sociology in college. When a child is born, the best any parent can do is provide for them, love them, nurture them, maybe keep them from juggling knives or setting their hair on fire, but for most part, nature will kick in and the process between birth and maturity will go along without a hitch.

In this new age of social justice warriors, however, we’re finding parents who feel their job as a parent may be too intrusive, so they let the children call the shots, or they go too far in encouraging what is normal childhood exploration.

More specifically, we’re finding this new breed of “enlightened” parents who are encouraging transgenderism in their young children, long before puberty has taken over and their child has had the opportunity to develop naturally. In effect, those pre-pubescent girls going through what used to be called a “tomboy” phase, or young boys who may display an attachment to their mother or her things are being encouraged to believe that this is because they were born the “wrong sex.”

A recent statement by the American College of Pediatricians strongly advised:

“Conditioning children into believing a lifetime of chemical and surgical impersonation of the opposite sex is normal and healthful is child abuse.”

Those parents who would push their child into transgenderism at an early age are not doing their children any favors. Their zeal for all things fringe is harmful to the well-being of their child.

Professor Paul McHugh, of John Hopkins Medical School, noted that if a child is biologically healthy, but still feels they are of the opposite sex, then logically, there is a psychological problem that needs to be addressed. He further suggests that to push on with hormone therapy and to physically alter their bodies with reassignment surgery ignores the mental issues at play, and may even worsen the problem.

Statistically, if left alone to develop and flourish naturally, those gender-confused children will adjust. Studies find that approximately 98% of boys and 88% of girls accept and move forward to live mentally, physically, emotionally healthy lives, once puberty begins.

Given those numbers, it would appear that the motives of the parents, who insist their children take hormones or have reassignment surgery while still very young are suspect, at best.

To quote Professor McHugh:

“Facts — not ideology — determine reality.”

It seems so simple, doesn’t it?

The darker side to this drive by some parents to indoctrinate their children into the LGBT lifestyle at a young age, all out of their desire to be part of a social “movement,” is the suicide rate of those individuals. The rate of suicide among transgender individuals is twenty times greater than the rest of society. This further illustrates the need for a psychological solution, rather than a physical patch over the problem.

There are already laws in place to deal with parents who neglect or physically abuse their children. It may be time to take a hard look at where this sjw trend of transgender children is going.
