I don’t know why I’m writing this, it has nothing to do with Kavanaugh and, hence, no one cares. But still, the world ticks on… but if you want the whole story, even the US response that has yet to be given, you could do worse than this David Chapelle skit (some NSFW language):

Earlier today, the UN’s highest court, the International Court of Justice in the Hague (yes, I did chuckle as I was writing that), handed down a ruling requiring the United States to remove all sanctions on Iran that applied to humanitarian aid and civil aviation:

The United Nations’ highest court on Wednesday ordered the United States to lift sanctions on Iran that affect imports of humanitarian goods and products and services linked to civil aviation safety.

The ruling by the International Court of Justice is legally binding, but it remains to be seen if the administration of President Donald Trump will comply.

Dude, the two things in that last sentence don’t actually go together. If it is “legally binding” then compliance is required.

Trump moved to restore tough U.S. sanctions in May after withdrawing from Tehran’s nuclear accord with world powers. Iran challenged the sanctions in a case filed in July at the International Court of Justice.

In a preliminary ruling, the court said that Washington must “remove, by means of its choosing, any impediments arising from” the re-imposition of sanctions to the export to Iran of medicine and medical devices, food and agricultural commodities and spare parts and equipment necessary to ensure the safety of civil aviation.

By limiting the order to sanctions covering humanitarian goods and the civil aviation industry, the ruling did not go as far as Iran had requested.

Keep in mind, the 1955 Treaty of Amity was signed with the Shah of Iran and we do not recognize the mullahs as a legal successor regime. Our agreements with the Shah ended in 1979. We don’t even have diplomatic relations with Tehran. This is just a bunch of puffed up UN bureaucrats pretending they are Jeff Flake and sticking a finger in Trump’s eye.

Iran's strategy of taking the US to the international court has paid off. The US of course will disregard the ruling, but Iran's aim likely was to establish that it is the US, and not Iran, that is the rogue nation now.
