ProPublica and The Texas Tribune dropped a new report this morning that puts Senate candidate James Talarico (D-TX) in an awkward spot.
The report found that Talarico voted in five separate elections using his parents’ address even after he bought a home of his own just a few miles away.
He purchased the property in June 2022 but waited more than two years — until September 2024 — to update his voter registration, according to Travis County records. That delay, the outlets note, is a "practice that may have violated state voting laws."
Aside from handing Talarico some fresh legal headaches, the news will hand his opponent, Republican state Attorney General Ken Paxton, a fresh pile of ammunition for campaign ads going forward.
The irony here is that the Democrat's campaign had accused Paxton of illegally voting in elections.

It Looks Like James Talarico May Be in a Bit of Legal Trouble in His Texas Senate Race
Talarico, it seems, doesn't exactly appear ready to talk about the latest revelations.
The "campaign declined to answer questions about his residency and voting history, including when he began living at the home he owns," the report reads.
Just last week, the state lawmaker told MS NOW's Lawrence O'Donnell, "When I get tough questions, I answer them."
This latest reporting builds on an earlier investigation published last month by The Federalist and the Dallas Express. Those pieces focused primarily on Talarico’s decision to register at his mother’s address in December 2021 so he could run for a newly drawn Texas House seat after redistricting.
The ProPublica-Texas Tribune report claims "records provided by Talarico’s campaign appear to show that he did comply with residency requirements during the period scrutinized" by those outlets.
Still, the newer investigation makes clear that whatever documentation Talarico provided for 2021 does not address the longer stretch of voting from his parents’ address after he already owned a home of his own.
It's still hard to process that a guy who lived with his Mom when he would have been 31 years old, and who reportedly shares an individual checking account with her, is the same guy Democrats are currently pushing as their model to woo male voters.
For a candidate who spent months lecturing Texans on election integrity while branding his opponent a fraud, the mounting residency questions are damaging. So is Talarico’s refusal to answer basic ones about when he actually lived in the home he owns.
