Abdul El-Sayed Projected to Win Michigan Democrat Senate Primary in Big Blow to Establishment Dems

The eyes of political junkies everywhere have been watching to see which candidate wins the hotly contested Michigan Democrat Senate primary race.

Will it be the establishment's pick, Rep. Haley Stevens (MI-11)?

Or will it be the Democratic Socialists of America/Hasan Piker-backed Abdul El-Sayed?

We have our answer: Decision Desk HQ has projected El-Sayed as the winner who will go on to face Trump-backed former Rep. Mike Rogers (MI-08) in the fall midterm elections to see who gets to replace retiring Democrat Sen. Gary Peters.

This one really went down to the wire, but in the end, El-Sayed was the victor, though by narrow margins.

As RedState previously reported, several DSA-backed House contenders, some of whom are also card-carrying members of the DSA, won their blue congressional district primary races in states like Colorado and New York in recent weeks and will likely go on to serve in Congress starting in 2027 barring anything unforeseen.

But El-Sayed's primary victory represents the first time this election cycle that a DSA-endorsed candidate has won a statewide Democrat primary in a competitive purple state. It will also be one of possibly two or more tests of the DSA's power in trying to get a statewide pick over the finish line in the general election.

The anti-America, anti-Israel El-Sayed winning the nomination in a closer-than-expected primary is nightmare territory for Democrats. Hypothetical general election match-up polling has shown Rogers with the edge over El-Sayed.

Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
