Bizarre Conspiracy Theory of the Day, Part 2: Jill Stein's Campaign Was a Russian Plot

Ever since the evening of Novemnber 8, 2016, the Clinton campaign and their lackeys in the media have been trying to affix blame on someone, other than themselves, for Clinton’s loss. Before “collusion” became all the thing, the whipping boys were Gary Johnson and Jill Stein. CNN was early out of the blocks when a member of their on-premises daycare (I say this because of his picture) was allowed to post How Gary Johnson and Jill Stein helped elect Donald Trump. Nate Silver saw her as a scapegoat to cover for Clinton’s failings.

Fair enough. Losers always find people to blame for losing, that’s why they are who they are.

Then Wednesday happened.

On July 19, the Senate Judiciary Committee sent letters to the lawyers for Glenn Simpson (Fusion GPS), Donald Trump, Jr., Eric Trump, Paul Manafort, and Christian Becker–who is apparently the attorney for the Trump campaign organization–telling them to preserve documents:

all communications to, from, or copied to you relating to Rob Goldstone, Emin Agalarov, Aras Agalarov, Natalia Veselnitskaya, Rinat Akhmetshin, Anatoli Samochornov, Irakly (Ike) Kaveladze, Christopher Steele, Aleksej Gubarev, Webzilla B.V., XBT Holdings S.A., Alfa Group, Dmitry Peskov, Vladimir Putin, the Ritz Carlton Moscow Hotel, Paul Manafort, Carter Page, Igor Sechin, Sergei Ivanov, Igor Divyekin, Sergei Millian, Dmitry Medvedev, Michael Flynn, Jill Stein, Michael Cohen, Konstantin Kosachev, Viktor Yanukovych, Corey Lewandowski, Sergei Kislyak, Yuri Ushakov, Anton Vaino, Mikhail Kalugin, Andrei Bondarev, Mikhail Fridman, Petr Aven, German Khan, Oleg Govorun, Sergey Lavrov, Rosneft, Sergei Kiriyenko, Oleg Solodukhin. This shall include any documents referring to any of the aforementioned using alternate spellings, pseudonyms, nicknames, abbreviations, or codes;

¿Que? Jill Stein?

Stein was at the same RT gala as Mike Flynn:

Stein didn’t just attend the gala—dressed in a shimmering silver shawl, she sat at the same table as Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has barely disguised his glee at the political chaos that what he calls “patriotic” Russian hackers have unleashed in the United States. And she recorded a video from Moscow’s famous Red Square, in which she talked about “the need to rein in American exceptionalism” and replace “a U.S. policy based on domination”—words that sounded like they were ripped from Putin’s talking points.

The Hill notes:

The only known connection between Stein and the investigation into Russian officials is a dinner she attended in 2015 where former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn and Russian President Vladimir Putin were both present. Stein has said her interaction was minimal.

And Newsweek says:

It’s unclear if members of the Senate Judiciary Committee know something of a previously undisclosed Stein “backchannel” to the Trump campaign or are simply reaching out to anyone who had contact with Russian officials during the presidential race.

Stein doesn’t think this is all that funny:

I don’t believe for a second that Stein is a Russian plant. A Soviet plant? Were they still around, no doubt about it. Anti-American? To the core. Allied with Putin? No freakin way. What is equally clear is that the Clinton team is pushing the story and they are getting a lot of cooperation from the media. This is sure to cause a lot of hard feelings amongst progressives and for that reason alone we should hope the story stays alive.
