We still don’t know exactly what has happened in Paris, but these are the outlines:

French president Francois Hollande declared a state of emergency and closed all borders late Friday after terrorist gunmen opened fire at multiple locations in central Paris, killing dozens of people and taking almost 100 people hostage at a rock concert.

Explosions also erupted at the Stade de France, the national stadium, where Germany and France were holding a soccer match, the Associated Press reports.

“It is a terrible trauma for France,” Hollande, who had been at the stadium, said in a national TV address.”Once again we are under attack.”

He said the French military was being deployed around Paris after the unprecedented attacks.

“The terrorists want to scare us and instill fear,” he said. “There are reasons to be afraid, but the nation knows how to defend itself and mobilize its forces and how to defeat the terrorists.”

The death toll ranged as high as 60 in the French media. The Associated Press quoted police as saying 35 were killed in the attacks.

‘What are you doing in Syria? You’re going to pay now’ Yasmin, inside the Bataclan, told BFM television: “I saw two guys. The biggest one said: ‘What are you doing in Syria? You’re going to pay now.’ “Then he opened fire. “I saw bodies falling all around me. I was shot in the foot. It was carnage. I’ve never seen so many dead people all around,” she said, sobbing.

Update #1

100 dead at Bataclan

Police state 100 people were killed in the attack on Bataclan concert hall. Three suspected jihadists were killed when police stormed the venue, police sources said. A French government official said the country’s state of emergency has gone into effect and that President Francois Hollande is cancelling his trip to the G-20 meeting in Turkey. Hollande was due to leave on Saturday for the meeting in Turkey, which was to focus in large part on growing fears of terrorism carried out by Islamic extremists. The official, who was not authorised to be named, said the government will hold a defense council meeting in the morning.

Expect this report to change radically over the next 2-3 hours. I know what you’re thinking: this is how the Religion of Peace celebrates after Friday prayers.

Could be. Suicide attacks are nearly a copyrighted move by Islamic terrorists. In addition to the signature move — suicide attacks — the fact that President Hollande has closed national borders indicates that he doesn’t think it is the Trappist monks acting up again. The national government also seems to think this attack is beyond the ability of a very robust Parisian police force to handle:
