A supposedly organized group of professional protesters bested by a sidewalk preacher. I still cannot stop laughing.

Zohran Mamdani: "Violence is an Artificial Construction"

Overprosecution, which may or may not be happening, isn't a case of violence being an artificial construction. It's a case of prosecutors crossing the line from what is acceptable and just to injustice and unacceptability.

Grand Ayatollah of Iran Issues Fatwa: Kill Donald Trump

A bit of humility might be in order. We can feel as outraged as we want about this new insult to our president and threat to our nation, but this is a regime that opens its parliament with shouts of "Death to America." This is just one more way of shouting the same thing.

Did Gavin Newsom BLOW UP HIS OWN LAWSUIT Against Fox News?

Now Newsom, in his private capacity—not as governor—is suing because even though both John Roberts and Jesse Watters clarified the day in their reporting, it made him look bad.

WHAT'S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill...

There's only one formal meeting/ hearing set for Monday on the Hill:

  • Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs — Business meeting to consider the nominations of Sean Cairncross, of Minnesota, to be National Cyber Director,  Robert Law, of the District of Columbia, to be Under Secretary for Strategy, Policy, and Plans, and James Percival, of Florida, to be General Counsel, both of the Department of Homeland Security, Kevin Rhodes, of Florida, to be Administrator for Federal Procurement Policy, and James Woodruff II, of Florida, to be a Member of the Merit Systems Protection Board for the term of seven years expiring March 1, 2032

The primary focus will, of course, be on the One Big Beautiful Bill, as the Senate is set to start its "votearama" on the measure beginning at 9:00 AM Eastern. At this point, the expectation is that the final vote on it could come late this evening in the Senate. Then it will head back to the House.

White House What's Up

President Donald Trump is expected to sign executive orders Monday afternoon in the Oval Office. That's the only formal item on his schedule for Monday, but we can expect he'll be weighing in throughout the day on the OBBB (and likely other matters).

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will hold a press briefing at 1:00 PM Eastern.

Full Court Press...

The Supreme Court is done issuing its decisions on merits-based cases for the 2024 term, capping off Friday with a monumental decision on universal injunctions in CASA v. Trump, but that isn't the last we'll hear from them, as there remain a number of cases on the Shadow/Emergency Docket awaiting orders. We'll continue to watch those closely, of course.

The jury is about to start deliberating in the Sean "Diddy" Combs trial.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

As noted above, the big focus this week is going to be on the OBBB and whether, first the Senate, then the House, can drag it across the finish line and get it to President Trump's desk by July 4. If I were placing bets, my money would be on this happening. But, as always, there will be much drama along the way.

MORNING MUSING

My first introduction to Zohran Mamdani was his tussle with New York state troopers as he attempted to shout at Border Czar Tom Homan at the New York State Capitol back in March.

At the time, he was a little-known (outside of New York) state assemblyman and mayoral candidate. Now, he's the Democratic nominee for mayor, and he's...everywhere. There is no escaping Mamdania. Even at my quiet little neighborhood pool over the weekend, Zohran came up — now, to be fair, that was just in passing. Still, though...

I don't think it bodes well for NYC if Mamdani winds up winning the general election. His purported ideals and agenda are radical, and he's glib but untested. Somehow, though, my gut is telling me that he won't — that either the remaining semi-sane New Yorkers will rally around incumbent Eric Adams or Mamdani will fly too close to the sun and flame out before November.

I could be wrong, of course. I hope I'm not. In the meantime, I'm already tired of the hype.

LIGHTER FARE

Unbearably cute.
