Have a(n Inaugural) Ball

I know I'm not alone in saying this has been just about the longest 76 days in recent history. Since Donald Trump won the presidential election in rather convincing fashion on November 5, those who voted for him — and likely even many who didn't — have been anxiously looking forward to the "peaceful transition of power" taking place today, Monday, January 20, 2025.

It's been fascinating to watch a president who seemingly spent most of his presidency sleep-walking through it — those moments when he'd awake suddenly and begin shouting notwithstanding — suddenly spring to action in the waning days of his term and issue all manner of executive orders, pardons, and odd proclamations.

It's been equally fascinating to watch the incoming president pull together his Cabinet and gear up to hit the ground running, implementing his agenda — an agenda that 77 million plus Americans voted for and even more seem to be anxiously awaiting.

So far, the celebrations, rallies, balls, etc., seem to have been a success, although Mother Nature forced the ceremonies and parade inside. While many of those who traveled to D.C. to participate in the inauguration festivities are undoubtedly disappointed they won't be able to do so as originally planned, overall, the mood in D.C. appears to be celebratory and upbeat. Certainly, we pray that continues through and past Trump's swearing in.

Something we all need to keep in mind is that from the moment Trump takes the oath of office, the clock will be ticking. He's only guaranteed two years of a fully Republican Congress to work with, and with the lead in the House being as narrow as it is, there's little room for error. He cannot afford to lose the plot.

But neither can we. This is a new era — a unique opportunity — and one that we can't afford to squander. And while the left and the legacy media have seemingly been a touch less resist-y heading into Trump 2.0, we mustn't assume that means they'll let up on their nasty trickses. Our job, as constituents — as Americans — is to use our power (in large part our voices, which, thanks be to Heaven, are far less constrained than they once were) to help push forward that America-First agenda.

Sometimes, that may well mean holding the Trump administration and/or Congress to account. It's far too easy, particularly in the Swamp, to become distracted and pulled off the righteous path. One of the key responsibilities of the center-right media will be to help those we've elected to stay on it.

So we should, by all means, take today to celebrate. To reflect on what it took to get here and be glad for it. To have a ball watching it all — and for those with tickets in D.C., to attend those inaugural balls and kick up their heels. But then it's time to settle in and get to work.
