Good morning, and welcome to RedState's "Morning Minute" — a brief glimpse at which stories are trending at the moment and a look ahead at what the day may bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for news to kickstart your day.
TOP O' THE MORNIN'
Catherine Herridge Posts Important Update on CBS' Seizure of Her Files
This concerned many that this could "chill" reporting and sources providing information to reporters. Some like Turley and journalist Brit Hume said they had never heard of anything like this before.
Three Shootings in Ten Days That Derail All the Media Narratives on Gun Incidents
That secondary reality has loomed large this month. So much so that we have now seen that Mad Libs media narrative exposed in all its shame, as there have been a string of these gun-related incidents in just a matter of days and it has led to a blaring amount of silence from the press.
Simply put, Biden knows it's an election year and that time is running out as far as a majority of voters are concerned for him to do the right thing. So to save face, he's now considering Doing Something™ he previously (and wrongly) stated he did not have the power to do.
WHAT'S ON TAP?
Today on Capitol Hill...
Still relatively quiet on the Hill as the winter recess proceeds. There are growing rumblings/concerns about a possible shutdown looming.
Congress returns to Washington next week facing a pair of looming funding deadlines — March 1 for a handful of agencies and March 8 for the rest — leaving lawmakers with little time to iron out their differences and get bills to the floor to keep the government open.
White House What's Up
President Biden returned from his California campaign tour late Thursday/early Friday. Friday morning, he's set to welcome the nation's governors to the White House, along with First Lady Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, during the National Governors Association Winter Meeting.
Friday afternoon, he's set to receive the Presidential Daily Briefing — this time with Kamala in attendance.
Full Court Press...
Back in December, a federal appeals court held that former President Donald Trump did not have immunity from civil lawsuits brought against him by Democratic members of Congress and Capital Police Officers arising out of the events of January 6, 2021. Last week, Trump's legal team opted not to appeal that decision to the U.S. Supreme Court, which meant the case could proceed in the D.C. District Court, where it is pending before Judge Amit Mehta. A status conference is set for Friday afternoon in that matter.
Meanwhile, in the Florida classified documents case brought by Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, Trump and his co-defendants have responses due to the government's motion asking Judge Aileen Cannon to reconsider her ruling denying the government's request to seal or redact certain material.
Of Primary Concern
South Carolina's Republican Presidential Primary is set for Saturday. Despite trailing Trump in the polls by an average of 25 points, former Governor Nikki Haley has vowed to stay in the race.
MORNING MUSING
This morning's minute is coming to you a bit later than usual, frankly, because instead of working Thursday night, I was enjoying spending time with my RedState colleagues. We're spread out all over the country and we don't often get to see one another in person. Thursday was extra special as we spent the earlier part of the day at Arlington National Cemetery, watching as our own Matt Funicello and Managing Editor Jennifer Van Laar participated in a wreath-laying ceremony before the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers on behalf of RedState.
This was the honor of my life. https://t.co/UY3duBYtQs

It was a chilly afternoon, with gray skies. But, as though it were scripted, just as the ceremony began, the sun peaked out. It was a moving experience, and I'm so grateful to have been a part of it.
