Still quiet on the Hill, compliments of the recess. The House Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance is holding a field hearing at the Rockland County Legislature titled "Restoring Prosperity in American Communities: Examining the Failures of Status Quo Housing Policy."

White House What's Up

President Biden wraps up his California campaign jaunt. 

On Thursday, the president will make an appearance at another private campaign event in Los Altos Hills before departing the region in the afternoon, according to the White House.

No argument at SCOTUS on Thursday, but the Court did hand down two opinions on Wednesday:

  1. Great Lakes Insurance SE v. Raiders Retreat Realty Co., LLC (Choice-of-law provisions in maritime contracts are presumptively enforceable under federal maritime law, with narrow exceptions not applicable here.) 
  2. McElrath v. Georgia (The jury’s verdict that McElrath was not guilty of malice murder by reason of insanity constituted an acquittal for double jeopardy purposes notwithstanding any inconsistency with the jury’s other verdicts.)

Today marks 44 years since the Miracle on Ice, in which the US Hockey team pulled off an amazing 4-3 upset over the defending gold medalist Soviets. 

What a moment that was — is it weird to feel almost nostalgic for the Cold War days? (It might be — I'm slap-happy from the 13-hour drive. Forgive me.)
