Moore to the Point - Devolution

I was speaking with someone recently regarding the craftsmanship in older houses — how you don’t really see that anymore. It’s like it’s become a lost art.

Seems like a lot of things have become a lost art over the past few years: humor, kindness, basic decency, to name a few.

I don’t know if I’m just getting to the point of my life where I want everyone to get off my lawn while I wax nostalgic about what things were like back in my day, but it’s hard not to look at the state of the world these days and wonder if we as a species have stopped evolving — and maybe even started edging back in the other direction.

I’m not exactly sure what it says about us that our average life expectancy has declined in the past couple of years, or that the fertility rate has dropped precipitously, but it strikes me that it’s nothing good.

I can’t think of much good to say about our education system of late, either. We have access to infinite amounts of information and yet seemingly are less informed. We have the ability, through social media, to connect to almost anyone, anywhere, but have very little sense of community.

It’s almost like we peaked and now are fumbling and tumbling our way back down the mountainside.

Probably as good a time as ever to reflect on the birth of our Savior — because, man, do we need Him.
