Original Story

As RedState reported, late Monday night, a U-Haul truck crashed through security barriers near the White House on the north side of Lafayette Square at 16th Street. Following the collision, the vehicle’s driver was detained by the Secret Service. No injuries to Secret Service or White House personnel were reported.

In addition to video of the crash itself, there was video of authorities inspecting the truck following the incident that showed what appear to be a Nazi swastika flag, a roll of duct tape, and a black backpack laid out on the ground next to the truck.

While the driver of the U-Haul has not yet been identified, multiple charges have now been filed against him, including threatening to kill, kidnap, or inflict harm on a president, vice president, or family member.

A preliminary investigation revealed the driver – who has not been publicly identified – may have intentionally struck the barrier, the Secret Service later said.

While authorities have not provided specific details on the alleged threat, the US Park Police said the man faces the charge of threatening to kill, kidnap or inflict harm on a President, vice president or family member.

The driver also was also arrested on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, destruction of federal property and trespassing, according to the Park Police.

A search of the vehicle following the incident yielded no explosives or other incendiary devices.

As this is a developing story, RedState will provide additional updates as information becomes available.
