Moore to the Point - Vanity Candidates

We still don’t know 100 percent for sure if Joe Biden is going to run for re-election in 2024. He says he plans to. But Joe says a lot of things he doesn’t mean – and a lot of things he does mean that are nevertheless complete horse hockey.

One of the benefits to his dawdling (from his perspective) may be that it’s keeping serious candidates at bay. The Gavin Newsoms and JB Pritzkers don’t want to buck the party and its titular head – they’ll want that machine fully behind them when their time comes.

But that doesn’t leave the field totally clear for The Big Guy. 2020 candidate and self-help guru Marianne Williamson has already declared she’s back in the ring to take another swing, and now, taking a page from his Uncle Teddy’s playbook, Robert Francis Kennedy Jr. has declared he will also be challenging the incumbent president.

Given Kennedy’s anti-vax advocacy, he’s become persona non grata in many left-leaning circles, but unlike Williamson and another Robert Francis who made a play for the crown in 2020 (failing miserably), this one may not be as easily written off as just a vanity candidate.

The Kennedy allure still lingers – at least for older Dems – and RFK Jr. knows his way around the political world. Then, too, many once thought Donald Trump a mere “vanity candidate.” And he surprised us all.
