Moore to the Point - Who Are the Honest Brokers?

We talk a lot, these days, about narratives – media narratives, preferred narratives. It’s an acknowledgment that so much of the information we consume is the product of someone else’s spin.

Frankly, I’d submit that all of it is – every shred of information passed along to us, whether via cable news, or talk radio, or social media, flows through a human filter. Which means it inevitably holds a degree of bias — whether intentional or subconscious, in framing or in omission.

Human beings aren’t robots and we neither consume nor disseminate information with complete objectivity. Shoot, even artificial intelligence programs like ChatGPT carry the biases of their programmers.

This is where discernment comes into play: If we want the whole picture, the clearest view, it’s critical to assess whether words match with actions and conclusions align with evidence. And that holds true whether we dislike the message in question or it’s music to our ears.

So, who are the honest brokers these days? Who can we rely on to call balls and strikes and not shade the truth – or outright lie — if it suits them? There may not be many, but the ones to look for are those who are willing to speak up even when it’s against their self-interest or who aren’t too proud to admit when they’ve gotten it wrong.
