The Democrat Party imploding in real time as President Trump implements his agenda has been something to watch, with perhaps the most interesting of all the aspects being Chuck Schumer's dramatic fall from grace among not just the woke left but also party elites like former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
As we've reported, the Senate Minority Leader from New York has been on the outs with Democrats since his decision in mid-March to cave to Republicans and Trump on the CR. Since that time, there have been calls from some Democrats and media figures for new Dem leadership in the Senate, with speculation running high over the possibility that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) may primary him in 2026.
Schumer's favorability ratings among Empire State Democrats have also plummeted, as CNN chief numbers cruncher Harry Enten recently pointed out, noting the numbers "scream sirens should be going off, primary challenge, primary challenge, primary challenge. When you are a Democrat in New York and these are your ratings, this is a big wake-up call if you're Chuck Schumer."

Though Schumer has tried to defend his CR decision, he's also tried to placate his critics by other actions he's taken in attempts to thwart the Trump administration. Among them was his response to Trump targeting Harvard University's federal funding and tax-exempt status over their failure to respond appropriately to antisemitic campus mobs, as well as their focus on DEI.
Here's what Schumer told CNN's Dana Bash on Sunday:
Bash: President Trump, as you well know, says he's cracking down on Harvard and other universities because of their response, or lack thereof, to those antisemitic incidents that you're describing. How do you think he's dealing with that?
[...]
Schumer: He is using antisemitism -- and it's appropriate to go after specific incidents of antisemitism -- as a pretext to hurt these great universities. It's going to hurt every American. It's going to hurt the kids at the universities who've had nothing to do with protesting. But it's also going to hurt the kind of medical research and other kinds of great research that is done at Harvard and other universities.
So we sent him a very strong letter just the other day asking eight very strong questions about why this isn't just a pretext.

Needless to say, Schumer stating that he sent Trump a "very strong letter" with "very strong questions" went over with Democrats and their press allies about as well as it would have with Republicans in a similar scenario.
"A strongly worded letter questioning POTUS strength. That should change things!" Democrat media apologist and former NBC News "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd wrote on the Twitter/X machine.
"That should do the trick!" former CNN editor at large Chris Cillizza tweeted.
just the idea that he wouldn't know the "strongly worded letter" has become a joke cliche that DEFINES an ineffectual pol is so telling. It plays as an admission that you have no real power and no idea how to get some. https://t.co/nHLElUqQ6B

Things have gotten so bad for Schumer that I wouldn't be surprised to see a conservative-leaning Super PAC start running ads in New York about his ineffectiveness as a "leader" to further fuel the AOC vs. Schumer speculation and the Dems in Disarray component to it all.
As I've said before, my thought on the rumor mill is that AOC will challenge Schumer in 2026 instead of running for president in 2028. New York is her backyard and is more friendly ground for her than the national landscape. Plus, AOC and her allies remember how she defied the odds against another powerful New York Democrat leader when she first ran for office.
Regardless of what she decides to do, seeing Schumer squirm and having to defend himself to his own party is inject-into-my-veins kind of stuff. More, please.
