Mika and Joe File a Hurt Feelings Report, Let the Mask Slip in Segment on Nancy Mace 'Rape-Shaming' Claim

The ugliness against Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) continues after her appearance on ABC News's "This Week" program.

To quickly recap before we get to the Joe and Mika comments: During the Sunday show, chief anchor George Stephanopoulos tried his best to rape shame Mace in an intense back and forth over her support for former President Donald Trump as he seeks another presidential term.

“As a rape victim... how can you endorse Trump?” he asked.

"I live with shame. And you're asking me a question about my political choices trying to shame me as a rape victim, and I find it disgusting," Mace responded.

Not to be outdone, "Morning Joe" co-hosts Joe Scarborough and his sidekick, wife Mika Brzezinski, had a sneer fest Monday on MSNBC over the interview, where their criticism was aimed not at Stephanopoulos but instead at Mace. Their reasons why said a lot about them, with none of it being good.

Here's a transcript:

Joe: "It's just not offensive and she's not shamed because she's incapable of being shamed."

Mika: "Although she tried to shame E. Jean Carroll... my God."

Joe: "Well, Trump continually tried to shame E. Jean Carroll. And again, I guess politically..."

Mika: "This is a woman who was leering and jeering Hunter Biden as he walked into the conference room when he tried to show up to testify in public, and then ultimately their private testimony went very badly but that's a side issue.

[Sneering] She was acting like an eighth-grader, screaming at him, shaming him."

Joe: "I was just wondering, Jonathan Lemire, how stupid she thinks people are."

The transcript doesn't really do it justice. Check out the looks on their faces, the sneering and condescension over Mace having the audacity to call out Stephanopoulos' disgusting line of questioning for what it was:

There were a number of falsehoods in that short clip, with perhaps the most egregious one being Brzezinski's false claim that Hunter Biden "showed up to testify in public" when Mace went off on him.

He did no such thing. As RedState's Nick Arama documented at the time, "Hunter wanted to show up and make faces, play for drama in the audience" in the aftermath of defying a Congressional subpoena. There was no intent to testify, just showboat.

But though not explicitly stated, it wasn't hard to read between the lines of what both Brzezinski and Scarborough were saying:

Nancy Mace's previous slamming of Hunter Biden and saying he lacked cajones meant she deserved the rape shaming she got from a Bill Clinton rape apologist because damaging Hunter Biden means potentially damaging Joe Biden in the court of public opinion, and we just can't have any of that.

What was especially fascinating about their hurt feelings report was what they left out of it, chiefly that they coddled then-presidential candidate Donald Trump throughout 2016 even amid multiple accusations at the time spanning 30 years that he had allegedly sexually harassed/assaulted women, accusations that others in the MSM, of course, found credible.

Here's a quick trip down memory lane:

So back when they thought they could ride their "friendship" with Trump all the way to the White House and beyond for exclusive interviews with someone who they thought would be president, they looked the other way when it came to sexual assault claims.

But now things are different, in part because of how their 2017 feud escalated and in part because they want to stay in the good graces of Joe Biden. So now they're singing different tunes, even though Biden himself was credibly accused of rape by Tara Reade, who was a staffer for then-Sen. Biden in 1993.

There's a word that rhymes with "boring" that I could use here to describe Joe's and Mika's actions in a political context, but I won't. I'm sure our astute readers can figure it out though.
