It has often been noted about hypocritical "defund the police" proponents in the Democratic Party that what elected officials who call for this never tell their constituents is that even if police funding is cut in their community, those same members of Congress would still have taxpayer-funded security - and private security, which of course would be funded by the tax dollars they are paid for the purported work they do.
We saw this play out in 2021 with Squad member Cori Bush (D-Mo.), who after being exposed as a defund the police hypocrite went on to defiantly tell the public she didn't care that she'd gotten caught.
"So if I end up spending $200,000, if I spend 10, 10, 10 more dollars on it, you know what, I get to be here to do the work," Bush said at the time. "So suck it up and defunding the police has to happen."
Fast forward two years later and yet another Squad radical is in the hot seat over a similar issue.
Freshman Rep. Greg Casar (D-Texas) rolled into the House of Representatives in 2023 in a blaze of glory three years after successfully pushing for defunding the police, who had their budget "reimagined" and slashed by a third during his time as an Austin City Council member.
Casar was positively giddy about it at the time:
We did it!! Austin City Council just reduced APD's budget by over $100 million *and* reinvested resources into our community's safety and well-being. Tens of thousands of you have called, emailed, and testified. You made the impossible into a reality. #blacklivesmatter pic.twitter.com/trrYSDEOK6

As has been the case in other blue cities in America, the impact of that vote has been disastrous for the Austin community, with violent crime increasing along with the resignations of formerly valued police officers, including the police chief. Residents have also been told to call 311, not 911 if they were the victims of a robbery.
Not surprisingly, though Casar continues to accuse the Austin PD of "systemic racism," he apparently has no trouble asking for extra security patrols for his home around the holidays.
Here's what the Austin Police Retired Officers Association had to say about it on the Twitter machine:
"It’s come to our attention that Anti police king of the defund movement in Austin @GregCasar who only last week called APD an agency with racist practices has requested enhanced patrols around his house for the next week. We want everyone in Austin to feel safe. 1/
But this seems to us as the height of hypocrisy from the congressman. Maybe he should hire private security like his fellow squad members do. Sure seems like he wants the police in his neighborhood just not yours."
Per Fox News, "Casar's request was made through the United States Capitol Police in Washington, D.C., which forwarded the request to the Austin Police Department."
Though Casar's office won't comment on it, the "security for me but not for thee" point has already been made by his critics, as it should be.
Casar should be publicly questioned on this by the local and D.C. press corps about the inconsistency of his position until he answers. The people of Austin deserve to know why Casar believes their police services should be cut while demanding extra for himself.
