A lot has been written and debated about the murder of left-wing activist/self-described Antifa member Ryan Carson, as well as his girlfriend and fellow radical activist, Claudia Morales - who witnessed his attacker stabbing him - allegedly refusing to give the police more details on the suspect, according to unconfirmed social media reports (which an alleged friend of hers denies).
While I'm not going to wade into that discussion, one thing that did catch my attention after news reports of Carson's death hit the Internet was the GoFundMe page that was set up on behalf of Morales.
One would think that you would see requests for donations to cover funeral/service costs and related expenses for laying Carson to rest and perhaps, for any family members who might have relied on him for income. Those types of pages are not uncommon to see on fundraising sites after the loss of a loved one, especially if that person didn't have life insurance.
But that's not what was on the page. What was there was a request for donations in order to... help his friends grieve properly.
I kid you not.
Here's what was written on the page, word for word:
Hi everyone.
We are a collective of Ryan's close friends, reeling from a brutal loss. We are asking for your help on behalf of his partner in easing the burden and stress of this horrifying situation so that we can have space and time to grieve, and remember Ryan. Immediate needs are to offset the costs of working class people taking time off of work to properly mourn.
If you Google 'Ryan Carson', you'll hear (and now see) about the tragedy that struck on early Monday morning. But if you look past the breaking news, you'll see news on his legislative victories, you'll probably find his social media accounts filled with thoughts and memories, and you'll find collections of his artistic works to date. We hope you may find his thoughts on mutual aid, his works of advocacy, and understand that his radical principles of community care, justice, and dismantling an individualized profit-centered way of life are worth carrying forward in our own communities.
It is this time of remembrance and healing that will allow for reflection; we thank you in advance for any material support you can provide.
In pain and gratitude,
Ryan's Friends
"Immediate needs are to offset the costs of working class people taking time off of work to properly mourn."
I mean, I just gasped when I read that line. I have no idea how Carson himself would have responded had he seen that, but my first thought is that the plea from these "friends" fits right in with the narcissistic nature of so-called "social justice advocates," and how the most pressing "need" in America in their view revolves around their "need" to endlessly virtue signal about their supposed selflessness -- all while not realizing that, in begging people to notice them and be impressed with them, what they do is anything but selfless.
Give us money so we can "properly mourn" - are you kidding me? Some people fell for it, apparently, as it has raised close to $73,000, as of this writing. The original goal was $20,000.
As one Twitter user put it, it's "simply ghoulish."
Imagine your close friend dies and your first priority is “we can fundraise our slacking off from work”. Incredible stuff.

My bet is none of this money goes towards a funeral and if there is one, it’s paid out of pocket from his parents.
Do these people even have real friends?
I couldn't agree more.
