Report: Eric Adams Pushes Discriminatory Hiring Practices in Apparent Bid to Out-Woke Lori Lightfoot

In May of 2021, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) sparked outrage on the right and among some in the mainstream media when she implemented what could only be described as a racist policy on who she would allow to interview her on the topic of her two-year anniversary as the Windy City’s mayor.

“As ⁦@chicagosmayor reaches her two year midway point as mayor, her spokeswoman says Lightfoot is granting 1 on 1 interviews – only to Black or Brown journalists,” NBC Chicago’s Mary Ann Ahern, who is white, tweeted at the time.

Though Lightfoot unapologetically defended her decision to discriminate against white journalists by claiming in so many words that there was a diversity crisis in the Chicago press corps, she was sued soon after by Judicial Watch on behalf of the Daily Caller News Foundation, who dropped their lawsuit after Lightfoot reluctantly agreed to end the policy.

Here we are over a year since Lightfoot’s stunt, and another big city mayor – New York City’s Eric Adams – appears to be trying to out-woke the woman many call “America’s Worst Mayor.” Per a new report from Politico, Adams has been requesting photos of prospective city employees to be sent along with their resumes, ostensibly on grounds that he wants to be able to put faces with names:

Of nine current and past officials interviewed for this story, most voiced concern that the practice is already leading to staffing decisions based more on race and ethnicity than merit, even if they said they support a diversified workforce. And nearly all of them said it has added another obstacle to an already slow hiring process.

[…]

The new protocol, described by officials across several agencies, is widely viewed as a measure to diversify the city’s workforce — a priority for the new mayor, whose slate of City Hall deputies predominantly comprises women and people of color.

[…]

“There’s no other way to interpret it,” said a high-ranking city official, who would only speak on the condition of anonymity to talk freely about an internal policy.

The person recalled receiving the instructions verbally, and being told by someone who works in the mayor’s office of appointments that Adams wanted agencies to hire people who “reflect the constituencies we serve.”

Just putting aside for a second the fact that asking for photos of potential employees is 100% discriminatory regardless of his “diversity” motivations, a quick check of New York City’s demographics shows that 48 percent of the population is male and nearly 40 percent of the population is white. On that basis alone it’s clear that Adams is already engaging in discriminatory hiring practices considering his “slate of City Hall deputies predominantly comprises women and people of color,” according to the Politico piece. Where are the non POC men if that’s the case?

This is why, regardless of the questionable legalities of what Adams is reportedly doing, hiring based on what a person looks like is so dumb not to mention offensive. It puts someone’s physical characteristics over their actual abilities and qualifications, and despite what the wokesters in the MSM and on the left tell you, this is actually highly insulting to most people who are not steeped neck-deep in woke dogma.

In any event, though I feel some sympathy for the people who were interviewed for the story on Adams, I won’t cry a single tear for any of them. Because whether or not they realize it, the mayor asking for photos of job candidates is really not that much different than a city or state implementing hiring quotas for women, gays, persons of color, etc., which is something people who work in Democratic administrations generally support. Asking for their photos, however, just makes it a little more obvious though, and that is apparently a bridge too far for these same folks.

Oh well, you reap what you sow. But unfortunately, the citizens of NYC who need to connect with city employees for whatever reason but who bump up against delays due to staffing shortages are the ones who will pay the steepest price.
