If there’s one thing the Biden administration is really, really good at it’s taking an issue where they’ve royally screwed up and making it even worse when asked to address it.
As we reported earlier, Vice President Kamala Harris did an embarrassing interview with NBC’s Lester Holt on Monday in which she was pressed on if she “had any plans to visit” the southern border. She gave a defensive and flippant response that didn’t remotely address the question.
“At some point…” she started to answer affirmatively before falsely stating multiple times that “we’ve been to the border.” When Holt corrected her, Harris made what she apparently thought was a cute joke by proclaiming that she also had not been to Europe, and then saying that she didn’t understand his point.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was one of numerous Republican members of Congress who roasted Harris for her remarks, and during today’s White House press briefing, press secretary Jen Psaki was asked by NY Times reporter Katie Rogers if the conservatives who were “going crazy” over what Harris said had a point about pressing her to visit the border to get a full grasp of what was happening.
After giving yet another canned answer about how Harris’ original “assignment” from President Biden was to “address the root causes” of migration and to address humanitarian issues with leaders in the region, Psaki told Rogers that “I will say we’re not taking advice from former President Trump or most of the Republicans who are criticizing us on this, even they were all sitting there while we created this problem we walked into both at the border and with the movement of migration that has been growing over the last year.”
Watch:
Pathetic: NYT's Katie Rogers and Jen Psaki tag-team to mock "Republicans and conservatives are going crazy" and "getting worked up" over Vice President Harris's interview with NBC's Lester Holt.
Add "going crazy" and "worked up" to the bingo card, my fellow conservatives! pic.twitter.com/r2i8QNW5Lb

“We” created this problem? I sure as hell don’t think so. In fact, Trump and Republican Senators like Cruz were some of the loudest voices over the last two years banging the drum on how Biden’s (and other Democrats running for president at the time) plan for the border was going to lead to the very disastrous scenarios we’re seeing play out now at the border with overcrowded detention centers, kids being stuffed in cages, human trafficking, etc.
Those same Republicans who warned about this were met with predictable accusations of “xenophobia!” from the same Democrats who are now pleading with migrants point-blank not to visit the border at this time. I distinctly remember Biden, Harris, and other Democrats talking about how migrants were “afraid” to come to the border because of what the Orange Man might do to them, and because of that, they weren’t coming. So no, this problem was not created by Republicans who were sounding alarm bells.
Also, if warning against open borders last year was xenophobic, what does Biden and Harris now urging migrants to stay away equate to?
Maybe if, ya know, that advice from Republicans had been listened to, the dire situation at the border we’re seeing now wouldn’t be so dire?
I’m not sure which to be more infuriated over here – Harris’ answer to Holt or Psaki’s tiresome gaslighting. Obviously, neither one of them was a good look.
In any event, at least on the Harris front, help might be on the way:
One of the things in this story from a few weeks back: Harris has quietly been doing media training, in an attempt to have smoother interviews https://t.co/G3OI5vB5rX https://t.co/afjI3yiwZ2

Oh yeah. I’m sure that’ll work wonders (not).
