There are few former Obama-Biden administration officials who do the “open mouth, insert foot” thing as well as Ben Rhodes, who is also known as a member of the Obama Bros glory hound quartet which also includes Tommy Vietor, Jon Lovett, and Dan Pfeiffer.
Rhodes, a former national security adviser, has been a frequent critic of President Trump’s foreign policy decisions, particularly as it relates to the Middle East. Outside of pure Trump hatred, the only other reason for his routine criticisms of Trump’s dealings with other countries is to try and make himself and his “achievements” look good via comparison, which quite frankly is not humanly possible even under the most charitable of circumstances.
The reason it’s not humanly possible is because, among other things, Rhodes was the lead spinmeister behind the Obama administration’s “Iran deal”, which was an epic failure.
“President Obama’s disastrous nuclear deal with Iran was sweetened with an illicit ransom payment and billions of dollars for the world’s foremost state sponsor of terrorism,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) noted at the time.
Though there have been numerous instances of Rhodes demonstrating a complete lack of self-awareness on this front, perhaps no other perfectly demonstrates it than the dunk Rhodes attempted on President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner today upon news reports of a trip Kushner will be taking to Saudi Arabia and Qatar this week along with advisers to White House:
NEW: Jared Kushner and a small crew of White House advisers are heading this week to Saudi Arabia and Qatar, I'm told.
— Jennifer Jacobs (@JenniferJJacobs) November 29, 2020
Rhodes’ response was to suggest Kushner was headed overseas to collect the “back-end payoff” for alleged services rendered or whatever:
To discuss the back-end payoff for four years of loyal service. https://t.co/fPlTbY7cax

The replies he got were brutal, and very much deserved, considering his history and that of the powerful man who used to be his boss:
If anyone knows about unqualified hacks riding that money train after working in the White House, it's you, Ben. https://t.co/RqvpNOi3mk

Are you projecting, Ben?
Is this what you had set up with Iran but had it canceled when Trump rejected the Iran Deal? https://t.co/1rbk8H53rV

Mewling Iranian lickspittle Ben Rhodes stating that the Jewish broker of Israeli-Arab peace in the Middle East is on the Saudi payroll without one shred of evidence is just…perfect https://t.co/1tPSjVYCYL
— Ben Shapiro (@benshapiro) November 30, 2020
Pretty rich to hear Obama alums talk about back-end payoffs when they sent $1.7 billion in cash to the Iranian Regime
The only thing the Trump administration has brought to the Middle East is peace—something Obama & Biden could never pull off. Stop projecting, Ben. https://t.co/fhcWJlnIfT

One of the dumbest tweets I’ve seen in a while. Gotta give credit where credit is due. Trump admin has been doing yeoman's work on Israeli-Sunni normalization and ending the Saudi/Emirati diplomatic conflict with the Qataris. https://t.co/xa2EtR5pan

It makes me chuckle that Jared Kushner was more successful than Ben Rhodes. https://t.co/DpBfu2KPXD

This zinger gets my vote for most creative:
Every Rhodes has its thorn. https://t.co/gmv4V9Cdkp
— ☠️ Canaanite Rider ☠️ (@MagmaLuna) November 30, 2020
Rhodes is a rather thorny kinda guy, isn’t he?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:
Dear Ben,
When it comes to Iran, Iraq, and – well, pretty much any and all foreign policy discussions, you might wanna sit them out, bro. Seriously.
Sincerely,
–ST
For some related reading, check out my colleague Bonchie’s recent report on how Rhodes recently gave us a preview of sorts for how things will be under a Biden-Harris administration – particularly as it relates to foreign policy blame games, and where he also asked what might very well turn out to be the question of the week:
“At what point is Rhodes expected to register as a foreign agent?”
