It never gets old watching Kayleigh McEnany own the mainstream media, but it’s especially gratifying when it’s Jim Acosta’s turn in the hot seat. She dunked him on a number of fronts at today’s White House press briefing, which I’ll break down in couple of segments.
CNN’s most notorious showman began his latest grab for the spotlight with an attempted gotcha question on how the U.S. had “hit 100,000 deaths” from the Wuhan coronavirus “at around 6 o’clock” Wednesday. Acosta then proceeded to ask McEnany why President Trump didn’t “recognize it” on his Twitter feed until “about 9 in the morning.”
McEnany correctly pointed out that Trump had “recognized that landmark” before it had even been reached when he ordered the U.S. flag lowered to half staff last week for several days.
Because Acosta didn’t get the answer he wanted to hear, he agitatedly asked the same question again, this time stating that it took Trump “13 hours” to acknowledge the milestone (unlike CNN, who has been talking about how it was approaching for weeks).
McEnany then patiently repeated her answer about Trump having the U.S. flag lowered, and then also noted “the President has said” even one death is too many, and that he “takes this very seriously.” Watch that part of their exchange below:

But here’s where things got really interesting.
Acosta then switched gears to bring up Trump’s battle with Twitter over the social media platform’s recent decision to “fact check” his tweets, which McEnany and a number of other high-profile conservatives pushed back on in response.
“On Twitter, shouldn’t the president be fact-checked, especially this president, who has made so many false and misleading statements that he has put fact-checkers to work across the world,” Acosta alleged. “I mean he’s uttered some 18,000 false or misleading statements, according to the Washington Post.”
It was then that Acosta accidentally revealed his bias:
“If there’s any president out there who should be fact-checked, any political leader out there who should be fact-checked, isn’t it President Trump?” Acosta asked. “And aren’t you trying to silence fact-checking by going after Twitter like this?”
“If there’s any political leader out there who should be fact-checked, isn’t it President Trump?” – What an absolutely revealing and biased statement for Acosta to make. Joe Biden and other Democratic leaders have uttered a staggering amount of whoppers and misleading statements just in the last year alone. But they’re rarely fact-checked, because the media operates from the Orange Man Bad/Must Drag Biden Over the Finish Line premises in everything that they do.
If the media – including CNN – spent even 10% of the time fact checking Biden and other Democrats that they do Trump, they’d see this, but they don’t because they’d rather devote every bit of energy they have into trying to discredit the President because he’s got their number.
Here’s what happened next in their exchange:
“Well first I would say I disagree with all, if not almost all, of those assertions that you’re making there, because look if you’re going to get into the fact-checking business, there’s no one that should be fact-checked more than the mainstream media,” McEnany said, and gave several examples, from 2017 and 2018, of reporting that turned out not to be accurate.
“But Kayleigh, the news outlets that make mistakes from time to time, we own up to this mistakes, we correct them,” Acosta said, to which McEnany shot back “Not always, I have many you guys haven’t owned up to.”
They continued to go back and forth, with Acosta laughably repeating his claim that the media owns up to their mistakes and McEnany citing even more examples of their erroneous reporting. She was clearly well-prepared for this one.
Watch the full clip below, or start it at the :58 mark to watch their specific back and forth about Twitter, Trump’s claims, fact checkers, and bad reporting by the media. She all but mic drops Acosta the end:
