In the aftermath of President Trump’s acquittal on both impeachment articles Wednesday and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) petulant ripping up of President Trump’s State of the Union speech Tuesday, Republican members of the House and Senate have been eager to take victory laps at her expense.

As my RedState colleague Nick Arama wrote last night, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) trolled Pelosi just minutes after Trump’s acquittal by posting a video of him (McCarthy) ripping up what were presumably the impeachment articles and stating “acquitted for life” with a smile on his face.

But Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA), the chairman of the Republican Study Committee, took a different approach to paying back Pelosi for all her impeachment efforts. In a tweet posted not long after Trump was officially acquitted, Johnson noted he was presenting special gifts to the Republican impeachment defense team “in case Pelosi was too torn up” to distribute them herself:

Johnson’s tweet was a clear dig not only at Pelosi’s “tearing up” up of the impeachment speech, but also for her passing out souvenir pens during the impeachment resolution signing ceremony last month while in the midst of putting on the pretense that Trump’s impeachment should be treated as a “sad and somber” moment in American history.

Johnson’s pen gifts come a week after Trump himself did some pen trolling against Pelosi by handing out handfuls of them during the USMCA signing ceremony.
