As Streiff noted earlier, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) got a good swipe in at House Intel Committee Chair Adam Schiff (D-CA) during Day Two of the public impeachment inquiry proceedings on Capitol Hill. Fortunately, Jordan wasn’t the only one.
Like Jordan, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) wisely used her time to carefully question former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, who was the witness Democrats had scheduled to appear today before the committee. Not only did Stefanik get Yovanovitch to confirm a key detail from her behind-closed-doors deposition, but she also spent a good three minutes taking Schiff to the woodshed over his flip flop regarding the appearance of the whistleblower.
The New York Post reports on that key detail:
But GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) later hammered home the point that the Obama administration was concerned enough over the younger Biden’s Ukraine job that staffers prepared Yovanovitch to answer them for [her] confirmation hearing [in 2016].
“The exact quote from your testimony, Ambassador, is, quote, ‘the way the question was phrased in this model Q&A was, what can you tell us about Hunter Biden’s, you know, being named to the board of Burisma?’ So for the millions of Americans watching, President Obama’s own State Department was so concerned about potential conflicts of interest from Hunter Biden’s role at Burisma that they raised it themselves while prepping this wonderful ambassador nominee before her confirmation,” Stefanik said.
“And yet our Democratic colleagues and the chairman of this committee cry foul when we dare ask that same question the Obama administration was so concerned about. But we will continue asking it.”
Watch below as Stefanik questions Yovanovitch on this point, which the former ambassador confirms:

Later, Stefanik ripped Schiff for good measure, noting he conveniently changed his mind about having the whistleblower testify before the committee:
Stefanik read aloud Schiff’s tweets — as well as quotes from news reports and television appearances — where Schiff said that the whistleblower, who remains anonymous, would testify. Schiff has since denied requests for that individual to come forward, calling the potential testimony “redundant” and “unnecessary” last week.
“The chairman refused to allow us to put these into the record with unanimous consent,” Stefanik, R-N.Y., said. “As we know, it is important to protect whistleblowers from retaliation and firing…but in this case, the fact that we are getting criticized for statements he, himself, made earlier in the process shows the duplicity and abuse of power we see.”
