Chaos erupted on Friday at a Pennsylvania DMV when ICE agents were tipped off to an unusually large gathering of tractor-trailer drivers gathering outside. Those drivers were suspected illegal immigrants seeking to renew their commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs).

The incident comes amidst significant stories involving illegals with CDLs who have caused horrific accidents on American roads.

After public tips poured in about a large gathering at the West Kittanning, Pennsylvania DMV, ICE agents arrived and ultimately arrested 13 illegal immigrants. Those taken into custody were from countries including Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan.

But the arrival of federal agents led to several individuals fleeing on foot, running through neighborhood yards, and literally abandoning their vehicles on the street.

A video showing a long line of people gathering outside the DMV was posted to social media. There is no indication of the legal or illegal status of those in the clip. Though such a long line at a DMV on Good Friday seems odd.

A spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that one of the illegal aliens resisted arrest and assaulted a local officer.

Armstrong County Sheriff Frank Pitzer told the newspaper that he received a call about ICE being at the DMV and described the chaotic scene.

“Numerous people scattered throughout the community,” he said. “I’m unsure of the reasons why they left. Were they illegal? Were they just scared? Obviously, we can’t answer that. … It went even as far as people exiting their vehicles and abandoning them on the street.”

According to Fox News, Zach Scherer, a Butler-area firefighter and activist who attended the 2024 Trump rally where the president was nearly assassinated, played a role in notifying authorities about the unusual gathering. Scherer filmed the scene and promptly contacted local law enforcement and DHS Pittsburgh to report the suspicious activity.

"That’s when police came, as well as ICE. Later in the afternoon when I got to the DMV, there was still ICE present, and 13 illegals were arrested," he said.

The DHS spokesperson told the Gazette that local residents were pleased with their arrival.

“Residents thanked ICE for investigating their concerns and responding to their calls," they said. "The incident remains under investigation.”

Pitzer indicated he was unsure why so many people arrived at the DMV that day, but hinted that one individual "may have gotten a CDL from that office and posted about it on social media, which 'snowballed' into others showing up."

A spokeswoman for PennDOT suggested the DMV in West Kittanning "was processing medical form updates for current holders of non-domiciled commercial learner’s permit or driver license holders, which resulted in a large number of customers" arriving.

The abandoned vehicles were reportedly towed away and impounded. The sheriff notes that it is unclear if those who fled were illegal or simply "scared" by the arrival of ICE agents.
