Democrat Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) issued a blistering statement after an aide was temporarily detained inside his Manhattan office by officers with the Department of Homeland Security when she allegedly obstructed efforts to track down pro-illegal alien rioters.
Nadler's congressional office is in the same building as an immigration courthouse in Lower Manhattan.
The tense exchange between federal agents and the staffer erupted when one of the lawmaker's aides invited two individuals who had been "monitoring" activity at the courthouse into the office. One of the DHS officers, as seen in a video obtained by Gothamist, can be heard accusing a staffer of "harboring rioters."
The clip only captures the aide being cuffed while sobbing uncontrollably, not what led up to it, as an officer alleges the individual had pushed another agent.
"Do not resist," the arresting officer states off-camera. "Stop resisting."
Meanwhile, another DHS enforcement agent is running into further resistance.
“I’m a federal officer, we’re here checking on something,” one officer says as another aide temporarily blocks a door leading to a private area of the office. That individual requests a warrant but eventually allows officers to search the area.

The aide was only detained temporarily due to concerns about the safety of the officers, not to mention the safety of those in the building who allegedly had "rioters" in their midst. She was not charged with a crime.
DHS issued a statement explaining those facts to the New York Post.
“Based on earlier incidents in a nearby facility, FPS officers were concerned about the safety of the federal employees in the office and went to the location to ensure the safety and well-being of those present,” the statement reads.
“The officers then detained the individual in the hallway for the purpose of completing the security check."
The statement does not address the alleged rioters, and there were no official reports of rioting at the federal building on Wednesday, according to the New York Times.
Nadler issued his own statement on the matter, accusing the Trump administration of "sowing chaos in our communities."

“President Trump and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are sowing chaos in our communities, using intimidation tactics against both citizens and non-citizens in a reckless and dangerous manner," Nadler claimed.
“If this can happen in a Member of Congress’s office, it can happen to anyone — and it is happening," he added.
Rep. LaMonica McIver was charged with assaulting federal officers after a confrontation earlier this month outside an ICE detention facility in Newark, NJ. She and others allegedly tried to block the arrest of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, who was accused of trespassing while protesting with pro-illegal immigration rioters.
Baraka's charge was dismissed. McIver's case is still ongoing.
