Big Flop: Michelle Obama’s Podcast Draws Some Embarrassing Numbers – Why Is Nobody Listening?

Here's a philosophical riddle for our readers: If Michelle Obama does a podcast, and nobody is around to hear it, did it ever really happen?

Sorry to go all zen on folks, but that is a dilemma facing the former First Lady as she receives humiliating news on the podcast front. Mainly, the number of people actually listening is few and far between.

The podcast "IMO," launched in early March, received great publicity. It features Mrs. Obama and her brother, Craig Robinson, discussing riveting topics such as whether or not beets deserve warning labels.

Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica. Whatever the topic, it appears listeners are tuning out the duo.

The Apple Podcast chart shows IMO down in the number 21 slot, while Spotify has them faring even worse - a dreadful 34th.

If one ventures over to YouTube, they'll find some truly dismal numbers on video clips from the show. Believe it or not, the aforementioned conversation about beets drew some of their biggest numbers, garnering 39,000 views thus far after posting three weeks ago.

Some of the more recent clips have under 10,000 views each as Michelle and Craig struggle to find their voice in the podcast market.

On both Spotify and Apple, "IMO" ranks well behind other political or entertainment names, including "The Tucker Carlson Show," "The Joe Rogan Experience," and the sex podcast Kamala Harris helped promote, "Call Her Daddy."

Who could have seen this coming? Michelle Obama is easily one of the more popular figures in the Resistance Party, as evidenced by Democrats pining for her to run for office every four years.

RedState's Nick Arama certainly saw it coming. After the first episode, Nick reported that if readers would like to listen to Mrs. Obama and "be bored out of your skull," then by all means, have at it.

"A podcaster has to have some appealing element, and to be honest, I can't see any with her. She just comes across as angry and preachy. That's not attractive," Arama wrote. "Podcasts thrive when the hosts are relatable."

"I don't think this is going to last long."

The first episode was titled "You Should Start a Podcast With Your Sibling."

Narrator: She shouldn't have started a podcast with her sibling. It came out of the starting gate as a major flop.

Mrs. Obama's podcast was accompanied by a significant promotional push from Higher Ground, the Obamas’ media company, and Michelle herself.

Higher Ground issued a press release, which was covered by outlets like "The Hollywood Reporter" and "Deadline." The release detailed the podcast’s premise, guest lineup (including stars like Issa Rae, Tyler Perry, and Keke Palmer), and weekly release schedule.

The announcement emphasized Michelle’s star power and the sibling dynamic, positioning it as a major launch.

Even better, Michelle promoted the show as an alternative place for people to chill while Donald Trump runs the country.

“With everything going on in the world, we’re all looking for answers and people to turn to,” she said.

It's true, Michelle, they're just not turning to you for answers.
