CBS Asked JD Vance for a Comment About His Mother-in-Law for a Hit Piece – They Probably Wish They Hadn’t

Vice President JD Vance gave a statement to CBS News for an article about his mother-in-law, Lakshmi Chilukuri. They probably wish they hadn't sent the inquiry.

In his statement, Vance blasts the outlet for "harassing" his mother-in-law and handles the matter with the kind of grace and aplomb we've come to expect from the vice president.

The crux of the report in question is that Chilukuri, who works in the Molecular Biology department at UC San Diego, has advocated for DEI policies during her tenure at the University. And Vance, the terrible son-in-law he is, is trying to dismantle her life's work. Or something.

Vance's statement, which initially lauds the administration's efforts to eliminate racist DEI policies from every institution, is printed within the piece.

"I don't like DEI, and I'm proud of what our administration has done on that front," he said.

At this point, one might imagine Vance delivering his remarks with a smile on his face, all while simultaneously nuking CBS for their pathetic attempt at driving a wedge between him and his mother-in-law.

"But I love my mother-in-law. If she doesn't share my views on DEI, I suppose I'll have to do what 99 percent of Americans do when confronted with a family member who doesn't always agree with them: get over it," Vance said. "I'll choose instead to focus on her kindness and the fact that she's an incredible mother and loving grandmother to the most important people in my life."

Vance proceeded to scold CBS News for going after Chilukuri.

"This story exists because CBS has decided that harassing my mother-in-law is a reasonable price in order to attack President Trump," he fired back.

The vice president has a rather contentious relationship with the network, having tangled with them, often in very public and viral ways.

JD Vance Roasts CBS Host for Moaning About Refusing Afghan Refugees: 'I Don't Really Care, Margaret'

During the vice presidential debate back in October, Vance was forced to push back against CBS News anchor and moderator Margaret Brennan as she attempted to "fact-check" his comments on immigration. The network had vowed that their moderators would not step in, but Brennan couldn't help herself.

“Margaret, the rules were that you guys weren’t going to fact-check,” Vance fought back. “And since you’re fact-checking me, I think it’s important to say what’s actually going on.”

As he went about the explanation, CBS cut Vance's mic.

The fun continued when, in an interview with Brennan for “Face the Nation," Vance became a viral meme in real-time with one particular response.

Brennan had argued particulars about a planned terrorist attack by an illegal immigrant, debating whether or not the man behind the plot had been radicalized before entering the country or after.

Vance countered with this gem of a line: "I don't really care, Margaret. I don't want that person in my country, and I think most Americans agree with me."
