Juan Williams Names His ‘Politician of the Year’ and OMG, We Can’t Stop Laughing

Maybe it's Opposite Day on planet Juan. Or maybe the Fox News political analyst is drowning his post-election sorrows by imbibing in excess.

Whatever it might be, Juan Williams just penned the most unintentionally amusing column you've probably seen in some time.

Williams, you see, just named his "Politician of the Year."

Was it the most obvious choice in Donald Trump, the man who overcame countless political witchhunts, indictments, arrests, multiple assassination attempts, and a concerted, coordinated effort by Democrats and the media to anoint Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States?

Seems like the logical choice. One of the biggest political comebacks — if not THEE biggest — of all time.

But nay, Williams found somebody far more worthy to bestow the honor of "Politician of the Year" upon.

Her name ... Liz Cheney.

No, we're serious.

The headline alone, the honor he grants Liz, is itself remarkable. But you have to actually delve into the column. A column in which Williams compares Cheney to Joan of Arc and states she should be remembered "due to her heroic sacrifice, already the stuff of political legend."

The stuff of legend is that Williams typed those words onto his screen with a straight face. And then he hit "send!"

"The former congresswoman soared sky-high above politics-as-usual in Washington by taking a principled stand that cost her power, friends and the money that comes with status in the capital," Williams wrote.

"Like a living Joan-of-Arc, she defiantly rejected orders from the rich and powerful to close her eyes to all wrongdoing and get in line up behind Trump."

It's difficult to know where to begin with that analysis, but we'll try:

  • He's calling her a winner despite having lost her "power, friends and ... money." That's literally a very, very big loser, by definition.
  • The rich and powerful were demanding people support Trump? The rich and powerful, Juan, were making nightly endorsements and campaign appearances calling the man Hitler. Cheney didn't eschew the rich and powerful, she locked arms with them.
  • How did this pass the Hill editorial staff? Reading it, one almost assumes it's satire. The Babylon Bee couldn't have made this column up if they tried.

Cheney, in reality, is the most significant political loser we've seen in some time. To paraphrase one Linus Van Pelt, "Of all the Liz Cheneys in the world, she was the Liz Cheniest."

We won't even mention the fact that she was soundly defeated in her primary by nearly 40 percent after representing Wyoming’s at-large congressional district from 2017 to 2023. To be fair, Williams is addressing her as the politician of this year.

We will mention, however, that there is tangible proof that Liz actually cost Harris crucial swing state votes among independents because those voters couldn't stomach the weird alliance between the two.

A left-leaning Data for Progress poll showed independent voters in Michigan and Pennsylvania declaring they were "less enthusiastic" to vote for Kamala after she campaigned alongside Liz.

RedState's Adam Turner notes that Cheney was unquestionably the "Republican leader in the 'Trump is the devil' campaign," making her a natural fit for the Harris campaign, but even the vice president's closest advisors recognized she was an albatross and "chose to end her campaign."

Throw in the fact that her baby, the J6 protest investigation, just got nuked entirely when Special Counsel Jack Smith formally moved to dismiss his election interference case against Trump. Another win for Trump, another loss for Cheney's life's work.

No, Juan, Liz Cheney is not the politician of this—or any other—year. She got trounced in her primary, did everything in her power to stop Trump, and failed. She cost Kamala votes when Harris really couldn't have gone much further downward, and she'll never be taken seriously in Washington again.

Oh, and she abandoned every conservative principle she ever held for the sake of being super, super hurt by mean words from the big, bad orange man. Cheney changed the entire core of her being because of one man she doesn't personally like.

Has there ever been a bigger loser?
