There’s nothing quite like a full-on leftist freak out. And that’s exactly what is going on in the frightening world of climate alarmists right now.

Donald Trump won the presidency and suddenly we are on the veritable cusp of all being told the Earth is flat, the solar system is geocentric and that *gasp* the science isn’t settled when it comes to the causes of climate change. Because all those things are seemingly exactly the same in their minds.

The day after the election the climate change alarmist’s minds went wild and they decided that the incoming Trump administration could start deleting data sets that are their equivalent of Gollum’s “precious” ring. To counter this completely unfounded and nonexistent threat they’ve begun “guerilla archiving” the available data stored on government servers onto private servers.

If the premise for what they’re doing wasn’t so preposterous, I’d be impressed with the mobilization effort.

Server companies have offered their services at discounted rates and lawyers have provided informational pamphlets for those collecting data who feel like they may need legal help. Scientists joining in the effort have marked in a shared Google spreadsheet where important data to download can be found on government websites.

The situation seems pretty dire if this is the reaction. It makes one wonder if we’ve all missed something. Should we all be tearing our hair out? Worrying that suddenly because of the Trump administration, information is going to be altered or destroyed by the government? Because they’d never, ever, ever do that until a Trump administration, right?

You’d wonder that until you get to the parts where they admit that they don’t expect such a thing to happen at all. From the Washington Post:

“I don’t actually think that it will happen,” [meteorologist and “climate hawk” Eric Holthaus] said of efforts by an incoming administration to obscure or alter scientific data. “But I think it could happen. . . . All of these data sets are priceless, in the sense that if there is a gap, it greatly diminishes their usefulness.”

That’s the main concern for Andrew Dessler, a professor of atmospheric sciences at Texas A&M University. He said he doubts that even the most hostile administration would try to do away with existing climate data, given the potential backlash.

“I think it’s much more likely they’d try to end the collection of data, which would minimize its value. Having continuous data is crucial for understanding long-term trends,” Dessler said. “Trends are what climate change is about — understanding these long-term changes. Think about how much better off the people who don’t want to do anything about climate change would be if all the long-term temperature trends didn’t exist.”

This is just a prepping exercise geeked out by climate change alarmists. Where instead of stockpiling water, food storage and gold, they’re loading up on climate data at a rate that would make Glenn Beck proud.

On the bright side, I suppose we should be encouraged that they agree with conservatives that the government shouldn’t be the sole keeper of all the things.
