Democrats Blew Up Their 'Protectors of Democracy' Talking Point With Graham Platner

How many times have the Democrats claimed to be protectors of "democracy"?

It's their constant shtick.

Of course, there are several problems with their claim.

First, we are not a pure democracy by explicit design. It's why we have the Constitution we have and the brilliant concept of the Electoral College. Some of the Democrats don't actually want to hold up those founding principles and want to do away with the Electoral College.

But, then, too, for years they have been running over the democratic process. We saw it after the Joe Biden 2024 debate debacle, when he gave demented answers like "We finally beat Medicare." They realized they would no longer be able to hide his condition, and decided that, despite him being the Democrat nominee, they were going to swap him out with Kamala Harris.

There was nothing really new in that debate - we'd been reporting on Biden's issues for years by that point. The only difference was that now the Democrats knew they were going to lose, and they wouldn't be able to hide the issue anymore. They deceived the American people, and the liberal media helped them.

How was that "protecting democracy"? They tossed the guy people voted for (albeit based on lies) and replaced him with someone who was not selected for the position by the people in the primary process. Indeed, she was basically rejected for the position in the 2020 race with low numbers and had to drop out.

Then here we are again with Graham Platner - he was the choice of the Democrats in Maine - in part, perhaps, because the story about Jenny Racicot and the alleged rape didn't come out before the primary. But they had a lot of other information that should have made the Democrats reject him - from the Nazi tattoo to the alleged abuse of ex-girlfriend Lyndsey Fifield.

Why did the Democrats finally turn on Platner? Yes, there's the Racicot allegation, but they didn't care about the alleged abuse of Fifield. They didn't care about the Nazi tattoo. This all comes after Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) had multiple polls showing she was now ahead of Platner.

It turned out that people in Maine do actually care about character, abuse, craziness, and Nazi tattoos, and it was affecting what they thought of him after the primary. And as we've reported, Collins has historically done far better than the polls predicted in her last two races, from six to eight points better. So that would indicate the Democrats were going to be in deep trouble with Platner - just like with Biden.

Platner was in a battle with the Maine Democrat Party (MDP), as my colleague Jennifer Oliver O'Connell reported. They wanted him just to drop out, and they claimed he and his team were trying to put their thumb on the scale. The Platner camp denied that, even as they then admitted they want the person picked to replace him to reflect the same views as Platner. The MDP reportedly intends to put together a nominating convention, and there are already people chomping at the bit to replace Platner, but that's not the same thing as a primary.

The leftists who supported him are furious on X, convinced the Democrats are going to slip someone by them they don't want, and are now saying the choice has to be someone who held similar positions, that the party isn't listening (i.e., not being "democratic").

As we reported, the Platner campaign people are throwing a fit, saying the party is cutting off the supporters and the people who voted for Platner. One of the Platner campaign officials even resigned from his position with the Maine Democrat Party.

Then, Platner himself posted a video attacking the party and the system for how they approached this, as he announced he was suspending his campaign.

He said the allegations were false, but he was not continuing because they'd removed his ability to continue, that those in power were taking away the "structures" by which they could continue (presumably meaning monetarily and otherwise no longer supporting him). He claimed, "We won, but they are not going to let us have it." He was furious, and completely deluded, claiming that they had to pick someone who reflected the "people of Maine."

This is going to leave those on the left very upset, particularly if the person ultimately picked isn't as left as Platner.

The Democrats fully own the problem they brought on themselves because all they cared about was winning. If anyone didn't know that already, this was a big example that truly exposed that to everyone.

Bottom line? They earned this debacle because "democracy" and being straight with the voters was simply a talking point for the Democrat powers that be - it's always about getting power. But it's blown up on them big time.
